csn anyone offer some advice please. I’m post night shift (had a little nap) thought I’d be a great idea to start sanding down my doors which need glossing. Have I been too overzealous with the electric sander? What do I do now? Do I have to sand all this layer of gloss off to get to the layer underneath? Sorry not even sure if this makes sense?

yes, I’m afraid it looks like you’ll have to take it all off or you’ll have an uneven finish.
For the next door, don’t use an electric sander. Clean the door with spray cleaner and microfibre cloth. Then sand lightly with a fine sanding block. You can wrap a sheet of fine grade sanding paper around a piece of wood. You don’t want to see the bare wood, just smooth the surface. And if you use water based gloss it won’t yellow.

I think you'll have to now you've started OP, sorry to say.

We used a heat gun and a scraper to get the paint off of our doors which worked well (albeit was time consuming). We wanted to take painted doors back to original wood though so had little choice, for a repaint I'd follow the advice from @Maytodecember - just make sure the cloth is non shedding and give the door a wipe down with some sugar soap of elbow grease. Personally I would prime for better adherence but there are plenty of paints these days that do a fine enough job without one.

Heat gun does work well, although it's a messy job.

Honestly no idea why I thought I had the energy for it after a night shift! Managed to get most of it off.
