Essex beaches- tomorrow

We can't watch the funeral live due to our children- young and with SEN.
We live in North London and are thinking of going to a beach in Essex, taking food with us.
Where is nice and could anyone recommend?
DH thought of Southend on Sea as its the nearest.
A neighbour suggested Frinton

Public loos are important too.

Feinting is lovely but they don’t allow food or drink sellers along the seafront. Check the tide times too, when it’s high tide the sea comes right up to the sea wall, but there’s a lovely green space between the sea and the road

If you go a bit further along from Frinton to Walton (literally a 5-min walk) there are free loos. That’s proper beach with beach huts. Southend is a stone beach, good pier but presumably will be closed like everything else.

Walton on the Naze would be my choice

Ohyoudodoyou · 18/09/2022 22:34

Mersea Island.

Whataboutno · 18/09/2022 22:36

Frinton too. The beach at Southend is not very nice!

LER83 · 18/09/2022 22:39

The Frinton/walton corner is really nice. The tide doesn't come all the way in so always a bit of sand to play on. Think it is called the leas. Otherwise Holland on Sea is nice and quiet.

EssexCat · 18/09/2022 22:39

Walton for me.

Such a gorgeous beach with free loos - the pier is a bit tacky but good fun and the town itself has some nice fish and chip shops.

Or frinton but that’s a bit quieter with no food or drink on the seafront.

I intensely dislike Southend. It’s not a proper beach imo.

Leigh on sea is wonderful. Perfect for little ones.

PrancerandDancer · 18/09/2022 22:47

I would choose Walton. Lovely big park for the kids, lots of parking. The naze is fab too.

Mersea is another good shout.

Think we are heading to Dovercourt tomorrow for a walk.

frankie001 · 18/09/2022 22:54

I’m actually in Walton at the moment. We’ve had a fab time, and would recommend. The pier is shut tomorrow for the funeral, but the beaches are lovely.

the Naze beaches have sharks teeth on them. We looked today but didn’t find any, but they are there!
