Ex and money he owes - advice please

My ex and I split just after Christmas.

Last year he paid for something purely for him on his Very account which was nearly £400. Warned him in may it was going to need to be paid in the autumn. Reminded him today and he’s said he’s not sure he’ll be able to pay because XYZ. If he doesn’t then nearly £200 of interest will be added to my account along with the full balance. I don’t want to jump the gun because he might be able to pay it. He’s not an unreasonable person at all but I am very aware that I can’t actually make him do anything. At the time of purchase we’d been together 5 years with no sign of that changing and he had bought and paid off things before on the same account.

What the fuck can I do?!

Text/write/phone him and remind him he owes it and you want your money ASAP (give a deadline).
If no response go through small claims court.

Is there a typo in your post? You say he bought it on his account. Therefore it's nothing to do with you or your account. They can't add anything to your account for something purchased on his account, surely they are two completely separate things.
