80th Birthday

My much loved Nan is turning 80 in November. My mum and I are taking her away for a weekend to celebrate. But I am really stuck for a present. She always says don’t bother and doesn’t particularly have hobbies or interests. Do you have any good ideas of things you have bought for an 80th? Thanks in anticipation.

I'd really agree with your Nan, to be honest.

I'm nowhere near 80 Grin but have definitely got to a stage in life where the last thing I want is any more "stuff" to clutter up my life.
If you were insisting on getting me a present, I'd rather you gave me promise notes .....for an afternoon tea or a Sunday roast (as she prefers)......for a trip to the seaside, or a day of your time to take me round a museum or cathedral or football stadium tour, or whatever she wants to see....or a trip to the theatre or the zoo....or to bake me my favourite cake......or a promise note to come round a do a job with me that she might struggle to do herself.... Personally I like flowers in the house, so maybe a "promise note" to turn up with a bunch of flowers once a month or something.

My mum is 80 this year and I think we are going to get her a new photo album and jewellery.

Thanks for the ideas. She definitely wants a gift. She would be hurt if we didn't get her anything. I might start with a photo book of the children- thank you great idea. The vouchers wouldn't work- we are a close family that would just be giving her what she already has!

We have done engraved paperweights
e.g. www.personalisedglassblocks.co.uk/product-category/by-type/diamond-paperweights/

They don't take up much room and create a lovely effect when the sun goes through them.
