Sometimes i wake up during the night with a sore neck and have to throw my pillow off the bed and sleep without one. Eases stiffness straight away. Especially if im lying on my front, but sometimes my side as well.

starpatch · 17/09/2022 19:59

Yes have slept on my back without a pillow for 30 years, my spine just feels flatter and more comfortable. If for some reason I want to sleep on my side though I need a pillow.

blublub · 17/09/2022 19:59

I have not tried this, but my now as I have shoulder ache a lot. Why do we sleep with pillows anyway?!

WaffleAndGelato · 17/09/2022 20:02

When I get a migraine I always sleep with no pillow. Usually only have one flat pillow anyway, find it so much more comfy to be almost flat, 2 pillows definitely hurts my neck.

RaininSummer · 17/09/2022 20:02

I have a pillow which is flat as a pancake as I get neck ache with anything higher.

Flaunch · 17/09/2022 20:03

Not with no pillow at all but my pillow is very thin. I have two on the bed to read etc and if I ever fall asleep on them both I really suffer!

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 17/09/2022 20:05

Those who sleep without a pillow, do you sleep on your back/front/side?

BendingSpoons · 17/09/2022 20:06

I sleep on my side so use a pillow. Sometimes in the night I move to my front and ditch the pillow. Apparently if you sleep on your back you should have your shoulders on the pillow too so your neck is not at a weird angle, so no pillow would make sense.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 17/09/2022 20:10

Yes. DH. I think he's an absolute weirdo but apparently he's comfier without one!

RaininSummer · 17/09/2022 20:17

I always sleep on my side with my pillow pancake. It's so thin I can make the right support by scrunching it up.

BlueThursday · 17/09/2022 20:44

Most pillows are far too high for me, even toddler ones 😂so I just do without

Saloop · 17/09/2022 20:52

I’m going to try and transition I think

currently sleep with 2!

I sleep on my front without a pillow and always have done.
I too was told by a physio that it was beneficial to sleep without one.

CormoranStrike · 17/09/2022 20:55

Me

i only get a sore neck if I spend too much time with my phone in hand

I find it far too sore to lie in bed with a pillow

MiddleParking · 17/09/2022 20:56

I sleep with one flat pillow or none at all.

Uagp · 17/09/2022 21:02

Me, always have done, I still have a sore neck a lot though. But I can't sleep on pillows 🤷‍♀️ dh has them stacked a mile high it feels like on his side and rarely has any issues.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 17/09/2022 21:07

Not by choice. I did for 9 months when cosleeping. It was horrible. My back was wrecking by the whole baby shenanigans so I can’t comment on if was helped by the lack of pillow.

Floydthebarber · 17/09/2022 21:12

I sleep on my side with two big pillows but sleep flat on my front with no pillow. Like a pp said though, if I have a bad migraine I can't have any pillow.

Augend23 · 17/09/2022 21:19

If sleeping on my back, no pillows. On my side I use an adequate quantity to mean my head is level. At home that's two thin ones.

Justgivemewine · 17/09/2022 21:19

I have a pillow if I sleep on my back or side but ditch it if I’m on my front.
i had a trapped nerve in my neck/shoulder and lying on my front with no pillow was the only comfy position I could sleep in. It was blissful at the time.

PanettoneMoly · 17/09/2022 21:26

I co-slept for a few months with DD, ditched the pillows and they never made it back. I do stack one vertically against the headboard though, so nothing can come up the gap between the mattress & headboard (spiders, creepy crawlers, zombie hands etc). Sleep in the same positions as I did before, haven’t noticed any difference to be honest, adverse or favourable

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 17/09/2022 21:27

I sleep on my side so I can’t but if I slept on back, I definitely wouldn’t use a pillow. My choices centre around neck pain rather than general comfort though!

sanityisamyth · 17/09/2022 21:28

I hate pillows. I like sleeping on my side with my arm bent under my head. However I've just had surgery on my shoulder to put 3 screws in it so I now can't sleep like that on that side ... so haven't slept properly in weeks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/09/2022 21:32

Sanity have you tried a V shaped pillow? I've found that helps recreate that position for my head.

Festivalpartygirl · 17/09/2022 21:43

I caved in and bought a pillow that kept popping up as a Facebook ad, guess I was desperate………….anyways been best pillow I’ve ever had, it’s by Easysleeper although I think they’ve had a name change to Groove pillows. There’s a cut out bit for your neck when lying flat on your back and it keeps your neck/spine aligned when on your side, I’ve tried without a pillow but to me that is just the reverse of having too high a pillow as in your head will drop down.
