Wedding anniversary weekend in London - recommendations please

Dh just booked a hotel in London for our anniversary next weekend. All very last minute! He's just told me 'now you organise what we're doing'. I'm slightly grumpy about the whole thing, but will try to keep spirits up and book something nice. Any suggestions? Nice restaurant? Any nice plays worth seeing?

Thanks so much!

What part of London? Near your hotel or are you happy to travel?

LaCerbiatta · 16/09/2022 09:51

Hotel is central, near Covent Garden I think. Nothing too far :-)

That would really piss me off Smile

I haven't been Covent Garden for years but I'll have a think where I've been that's quite close. The problem you'll have is the short notice for booking somewhere.

Go to Fortnum and Mason wine bar (in the basement) for drinks and nibbles, you can walk there easily and then you are centrally placed for a wander through Green Park or up Bond Street.
if you like Christmas, Liberty Christmas department is beautiful and lots of lovely restaurants at Kingly Court just off Carnaby Street.
Andre Edmunds is a lovely restaurant in Soho, you might get lucky if you try and book a table. I’d generally recommend booking restaurants for dinner if you can.
Have a lovely time!

Clos Maggiore is a lovely restaurant right in the Covent Garden area. The American bar in The Savoy is highly recommended (I haven’t been yet!). Also The Savoy Grill - Gordon Ramsay at The Savoy is always amazing, but may be difficult to book at short notice. How many nights are you in London for?

I was going to say Clos Maggiore!

Most of the restaurants I've been to have closed now but my FIL loves Rules. Very good traditional food. It's one I've wanted to try for years and haven't got round to it yet.

LaCerbiatta · 16/09/2022 12:16

Thanks all, Clos Maggiore looks amazing, sadly no table... Any other suggestions? Something maybe less pricy?
We're there just for one night :-)

Frenchies is lush, amazing food.

Wnikat · 16/09/2022 12:21

reataurant recommendations:

  • Noble Rot
  • Kolamba
  • Quo Vadis

things to do that need booking: national gallery, national portrait gallery

or get last minute tickets to a show

gelert5619 · 16/09/2022 12:26

Sarastro in drury lane is one of my favourites. It's on the corner with lots of greenery outside so it's easy to miss. Food, something for everyone, price not expensive and the decor is amazing. Ask for one of the balconies..........

jellybeanteaparty · 16/09/2022 12:53

If you like wine noble rot restaurant pairs wine with food for a reasonable lunch menu They are not too far in Soho I think. Things to do - boat down the Thames to Greenwich. Walk across all the main bridges in a loop is fun or part of Thames walk. Borough market Camden market or spitlefields market. Sky garden for drinks.

LiftyLift · 16/09/2022 12:55

Do you like steak? Hawksmoor Air Street is lovely. Has a bit of an Art Deco feel, relaxed formal. Also Dishoom if you like Indian.

Kingley Court as mentioned by PP is great, loads of restaurants together with an open air bit in the middle. Should have walk ins if you can’t book something.

BestCatMumEver · 16/09/2022 13:09

Radio rooftop bar is lovely and right next to Covent Garden.

MinnieMountain · 16/09/2022 13:18

Go to Gordon’s wine bar by Charing Cross, then you won’t care about food 😄
The Delaunay might have room.

LaCerbiatta · 16/09/2022 14:55
