Where to buy towels that are good value and ok quality?

Can anyone recommend where’s good to get towels from? They don’t have to be fantastic quality but I’d like them to last for 5 years or so and not to shed everywhere and not cost a fortune. All recommendations appreciated.

We've had good cheap towels from Asda, Primark, Ikea. I'm sure other supermarkets do them as well. Dunelm towels are good.

ManagementPlan · 15/09/2022 18:47

My favourite towels are from Tesco. They must be at least 5 years old and much softer than some more expensive ones I have

MyOwnPrivateGardenHoe · 15/09/2022 18:55

Echoing Ikea. They wash wonderfully.

I didn’t think of supermarket ones. I’ll definitely check Tesco out to start with. They sound good.

Zara towels last forever

3partypics · 15/09/2022 18:57

Ikea or ASDA, ASDA have nicer prints and patterns but Ikea are good for standard types.

TwoMonthsOff · 15/09/2022 19:02

I get Christy ones when they are on sale at Debenhams, they have some on sale now but limited colours

BaronessBomburst · 15/09/2022 19:03

I like the M&S ones.

sleepymum50 · 15/09/2022 19:07

We picked up some really nice ones from Sainsburys

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 15/09/2022 19:11

Asda do Egyptian cotton for only a few pounds more than standard cotton

Nat6999 · 15/09/2022 19:14

I buy my towels from Next, Dunelm & Sainsburys usually but the best towels I have came from either Primark or a market at the seaside, they wash without shedding & haven't shrunk at all.

Wbeezer · 15/09/2022 19:16

I've found Dunelm Egyptian Cotton ones good.

Myotherdogsaballboy · 15/09/2022 19:21

Wow. Didn’t expect so many replies. I’m going to be spoilt for choice. Thanks everyone,

We have towels from several places. The IKEA ones feel very thin and cheap (which admittedly they were). The Sainsbury ones are probably the best value, much thicker and softer than the IKEA ones and pretty similar to the M&S ones. Not quite as good as the Christy ones and the House of Fraser egyptian cotton ones are the best.

Proudofeveryone · 15/09/2022 19:26

Have a look in B&M. I have had mine since before covid and they are still going strong.

Muststopeating · 15/09/2022 19:29

Dunelm Egyptian Cotton are brilliant. Every colour you can think of. Wash brilliantly. Last for years. I think I've had some of mine for 10+ years.

I had supermarket ones donkeys ago and they were bloody awful.

Though I do believe the key to a soft towel is the tumble dryer (and am prepared to be shouted down for it).

PeloFondo · 15/09/2022 19:30

I've got Asda and dunelm towels that are both over 15 years old

TwoMonthsOff · 15/09/2022 19:30

@Myotherdogsaballboy
John Lewis seem to have some reductions atm, they have a range called ‘everyday’ Egyptian cotton, not bought any though maybe someone else can recommend -or not

middleofthelittle · 15/09/2022 19:32

M&S do the best in my opinion.

Cherrysherbet · 15/09/2022 19:34

I love my matalan towels. Great quality and wash lovely.

Eeiliethya · 15/09/2022 19:34

My Sainsburys towels are my favourite. I found the ikea towels went flat and thin after a time.

I might have bought particularly shit towels but my Sainsbos towels have stayed fluffy and thick over time. They just feel substantial.

waltzingparrot · 15/09/2022 19:34

Just bought some lovely ones from Sainsburys - and in the sale.

TwoMonthsOff · 15/09/2022 19:35

@Muststopeating
i know some people like soft towels so maybe I am strange but I like mine a bit ‘crispy’ like when they’re line dried in the hot weather they seem much more absorbent, I don’t like fabric softener on them either for that reason. 😀

TwoMonthsOff · 15/09/2022 19:37

@waltzingparrot
you are right - I’ve bought hand towels for kitchen form sainsburys as sometimes when you are grocery shopping they have some good reductions and they’re nice, I like their ‘professional’ range pots and pans too.
and they do nice tea towel packs with lovely designs on
