Podcasts on news/current affairs

I've recently started listening to The Rest is Politics with Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart, and I think it's great, partly because they talk about stuff that isn't really on the front page of the BBC website (which embarrassingly is where I get most of my news these days).

Does anyone have any recommendations for other podcasts which cover the news and current affairs, ideally with a bit of discussion and debate?

Haha! Exactly what I was going to recommend. I don’t love podcasts because the most interesting things I find out about are random. Radio 4 is normally good at deeper news, from our own correspondent, crossing continents, more or less. And world service.

I've just started on the News Agents podcast, with Emily Maitlis from Newsnight. It's really interesting. On global, if you google it you can listen.

The Week Unwrapped does stories which haven't had much attention
Conflicted is by a former Al Qaeda member/MI6 operative and a journalist and focuses on middle east history but also tends to tie in with the current situations going on there
Guardian Today in Focus & New York Times The Daily are pretty similar but no real debate
BBC World Service The Documentary covers a topic with three experts, often from opposing positions but not exactly debate
Private Eye

Can't think of anymore. I have podcasts on all day as background noise so get through a lot!

If you’re interested in American politics and public opinion/polling, I recommend the 538 politics podcast. I used to like the New York Times podcast The Run-up but not sure about this new presenter/format.
