Queue Logistics Only Please!

Morning!

I'm hoping to create a very simple thread about logistics for 'The Queue.' I need to travel from Manchester and back again. I have the full day free on Saturday but working tomorrow and have plans for Sunday. This morning on BBC Breakfast it seemed to be moving fairly quickly and the wait time was about 6 hours. The queue also seems to have lengthened by about 0.8 mile since about 8am. I'm currently wondering if my best bet might be to arrive in London around midnight tomorrow night and leave early afternoon on Saturday. I need to book trains hence the defined start & finish time.

Ideally I'd like not to hear:

  • Why would you?
  • I don't get it
  • You're queuing to see a box
  • How do you know if she's even in there?
  • People are being brainwashed into wasting their lives in a queue
  • Why should a wealthy woman get all this when my Great Auntie Dot didn't even have a funeral etc etc

Now that we've covered all that, could you just tell me what you think about travel and the best time to join!

I would join asap. News are reporting that a lot of people will be heartbroken as the queue will need to close at some point.

SingularityCat · 15/09/2022 09:55

Get there as early as you can and leave as late as you can.

SquirmOfEels · 15/09/2022 09:57

They paused the queue and blacked out the live feed for about an hour between 0200-0300, whilst there were cleaners in the Hall

TokyoSushi · 15/09/2022 10:02

This is good to know, I think I'm going to get there asap tomorrow evening

And the no liquids rule includes hand gel, make up etc. There is no "clear bag' system as there is for flights. All liquids must be surrendered, and all food is confiscated.

That doesn't happen until the very southernmost tip of Victoria Gardens, if you're wondering when you need to eat up

And yes, they mean it when they say they remove people who appear drunk from the queue

Rainbowqueeen · 15/09/2022 10:05

Yes I’d go asap.

Take food and drink but anything not used will have to be handed over when you get to the front.

When does it close? Saturday or Sunday? I can image there being a rush on the last day, especially if its the Saturday when more people are able to 'just pop down'. I'd aim to get there today or tomorrow or not bother at all TBH.

They haven't said - It depends I suppose on numbers. They won't want people queueing when there is no hope of reaching the front in time.

So I guess they'll stop handing out wristbands and then deploy marshalls further back to tell people that the queue ahead is closed and they should disperse.

Tracker says joining point is currently 4 miles, by Tower Bridge

But is that really 4 miles, as the snake must add quite a lot to map measurements?

www.itv.com/news/2022-09-14/official-queen-lying-in-state-queue-tracker-shows-length-and-end-of-line-live The tracker will probably be useful for your planning.

i think get there as soon as possible is there best bet.

everywoman682 · 15/09/2022 12:44

Ok I won't ask why!

I think the only advice people can give is to get there as soon as you can. But none of us know the way it's going to go... whether more people who weren't planning to go will caught up in the fever and come, or whether there will be a rush at any point. Though it seems obvious that most people will have work or kids in school and wouldn't even be able to contemplate it until late Friday afternoon. I don't think anyone can say more than that.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 15/09/2022 12:51

Anyone who can predict the future of the queue would be much in demand by all the planners in London I'd say 😀

Common sense would say to get there as soon as you can and keep your figers crossed.

TokyoSushi · 15/09/2022 13:07

I've booked my train, I'm going later tomorrow! I hear now that the Royal Family are taking part in a vigil on 'Friday night' but I expect that'll be before I get there. So it might get very busy for that.

Hope you've got to the front by now and it was a great experience
