We have just been gifted tickets to The Moulin Rouge for an upcoming trip to Paris we have been planning for ever. Have you ever been? What’s the dress code for women?, should l wear a dress or trousers?, dressy or smart casual?

l don’t know what to expect really, obviously l know it’s not going to be like the film. Thanks

My husband and I went some years ago, it was very dressy! Wear your best cocktail type dress if you can, jeans and a nice top won't cut it. It was great though, very glitzy and glam, with plenty of boobs thrown in!!

I’ve been and dressed up but not everyone was

Yes, it was amazing! I went with a group of friends for my birthday, we went very dressy - people were mostly in cocktail/evening type dress. It was quite a long time ago but I remember the show was beautiful and the drinks were very expensive! I think you could only buy champagne or spirits by the bottle for the table, I don’t know if that has changed since but I remember it being £££ but we had such a good night. Have fun!

Paris itself is very undressy for the cool spots, but
Moulin Rouge is largely tourists and people tend to really dress up. It’s a lot of fun!

Thank you everyone, l might get a spray tan and l will definitely get a new dress.

It was amazing! I wore smart casual (as I was a backpacker at the time and had no space for fancy clothes) but loads of people were dressed to the nines.

We went about 10 years ago, amazing experience! Think cocktail dress style & you’ll be fine, didn’t see anyone in jeans & trainers.

iwantasandwich · 15/09/2022 15:23

Yes, I dressed nicely but not too fancy

It was a lot more like the film than I expected though (vividly remembering women with their tits out roller-skating on stage)

I went several years ago in the middle of a freezing cold winter so we were not dressed up, just for warmth (it was snowing). I was with overseas family who were on a longer trip through Europe so most of us were in jeans/jumpers/walking shoes and none of us felt out of place.

I don't recall anyone in very glamorous or cocktail style clothes, maybe because of the cold weather but also, it is for tourists after all and not many of them travel with very dressy outfits. I hope you have a great time! But a small caution - I got a bit bored as it's a bit repetitious after a while and some of our group were slightly disappointed as they'd built it up in their head as some amazing experience & highlight of the visit to Paris which it couldn't really live up. Just go without too many expectations and hopefully the show will exceed them!

I've been a couple of times . Wear some comfortable shoes as there are lots of steps to the tables ( tiers) and the lighting is set very low
Food was very good and order your wine before the show
You'll share your table with strangers but that doesn't detract from the show
Some people were dressed normally and some had really gone to town
I'm very jealous, have a great time

Not sure this would go down as well on the Feminist board!
