Chatsworth at Christmas. Worth a visit?

We're going to be in Derbyshire in December. Is Chatsworth at Christmas worth a visit? I've seen a TV programme where it all looks spectacular and beautiful. They don't seem to have announced the theme or prices for this year but wondering what others who have been before thought. Just adults. No kids.

I would love to do this. I haven't been so can't advise, but happy to encourage.

I've done it a few times and honestly think it's great. A real effort is put into the them and it can be spectacular. Take your time in there and really soak up the atmosphere in each room.

Happy to be encouraged Boxowine! I love a stately home at the best of times and the thought of being able to do this without the children rushing me or whining is quite exciting.

Chatsworth is always worth it, for the food alone Grin

I went once when it was Wind In The Willows theme and it was magical. I did have kids with me but it would have been even better without! Id say go when its dark and make time to go the farm shop too.

PAFMO · 14/09/2022 18:34

Absolutely.
Take me please.

EmmaH2022 · 14/09/2022 18:39

never thought of this. What sort of price range is it?

RedRosie · 14/09/2022 18:44

Yes it's lovely (I have family nearby). It can get busy so maybe avoid the peak times if you can.

DontKeepTheFaith · 14/09/2022 18:45

Oh, I’d love to go. Chatsworth is a class act at all times, I just love visiting. They did a Tv program about it one year, it looked awesome.

I will visit at Christmas one year, it’s a bit of a trek for us so not this year sadly.

Caroffee · 14/09/2022 18:45

Yes. The way they theme it out at Christmas is incredible. Plus there are a lot of other things to do such as the Christmas market.

lissie123 · 14/09/2022 18:46

Love love love it you won’t be disappointed

Janesdufflecoat · 14/09/2022 18:46

I went last year loved it!

TwitTw00 · 14/09/2022 18:47

I live and work within a couple of miles and everyone round here goes every year at Christmas.

grayhairdontcare · 14/09/2022 18:48

It's so beautiful at Christmas
And the Christmas treats from the farm shop are worth the trip alone 😃

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 14/09/2022 18:48

I live not far from Chatsworth and can 100% recommend it. It's stunning at Christmas! I particularly love the Christmas market too. Parking prices can be steep though especially Christmas market days.

Mushroo · 14/09/2022 18:50

yes it’s great! Went last year for the first time. I don’t think it was particularly expensive either. All the rooms were fabulous and they had a light show in the garden.

there was also a mini market type thing for food and drink. It was a great day out.

flapjackfairy · 14/09/2022 18:51

I go every single year with my adult daughters. We go the last weekend around New Year and it is our last Christmas hurrah. And eldest daughters birthday weekend as well so it is one of our family traditions.
It is great and last year there were lots of lights in the gardens to wander around as well.
Really well worth a visit.

CustardPatella · 14/09/2022 18:52

I'm fairly local so have been many times at Christmas and it is wonderful. No idea what the theme will be but they really go to town on it, it is fabulous.

EsmaCannonball · 14/09/2022 18:53

I've been to Chatsworth several times and wouldn't choose to go at Christmas as only a very limited part of the house is open. IMO the house is better at other times of the year.

WallaceinAnderland · 14/09/2022 18:53

Yes, for sure. If I had to pick one Christmas trip out, this would be it.

veneeroftheyear · 14/09/2022 18:54

Great to know everyone has enjoyed it! Thanks.
