Do you think London will be “back to normal” by the 22nd?

DH is flying into Heathrow on the 22nd, first time seeing family and friends in four years (we are in Aus). Bearing in mind the Queen’s funeral is on the 19th is it naive to think that there will be some return to normal three days later? He won’t be heading to Central London but might need to go through London a few days later heading to the South Coast. Rather ironically our public holiday to mark the occasion is the 22nd!

The tributes will probably still be there but yes, I'd expect everything to be back to normal.

It's all 'normal' in terms of transport etc at the moment. Just lots more people carrying flowers around and all quite peaceful and pleasant.
Will all be fine by the 22nd.

It'll be fine. There will be road closures up to and including the 19th but even then the vast majority of London will be unaffected. From the 20th it will be business as usual.

Thanks for the replies and reassurance. A very monarchist English friend of mine here is convinced there is an additional seven days of mourning after the funeral, but surely if that is true it would be family only! Not even my posh friend can claim royal blood 😂

Yes, there are more people in certain parts but public transport and roads are fine. IMO public transport is less crowded than before the pandemic.

Hotseatpants · 14/09/2022 08:55

Ha! The Queen is my eighth cousin and I and all my colleagues and family are behaving normally!

Flatandhappy · 14/09/2022 08:58

Good to know @Hotseatpants

Yes - I mean life is still going on in central London even now! My daughter goes in for school and says nothing's much different underground!

TokyoTen · 14/09/2022 09:45

Yes, I'm sure it'll be back to normal by then. There is another 7 days mourning post the funeral but only for close family I believe.

The additional days are just for the family. I expect they will be exhausted after constantly being in the public eye and will need to rest, expect the King, who will have to carry on with matters of state.

Thanks all.

I was in Soho today and it was pretty normal, no trouble getting a cab. I walked down to Trafalgar Square and that was civilised but many roads closed
