Medical Abortion.

Hi, I’m looking for some advice around a medical abortion. I’m currently in the middle of one due to personal reasons and I took my first pill yesterday (mifepristone) which they advised I could go about my normal day but I could barely stand due to feeling dizzy and like I was going to throw up every second. I’m still feeling this way now just a little milder and I’m due to insert my second lot of tablets at midday but I’m really nervous as to how I’m going to feel. Has anyone else felt this way after taking the mifepristone?

thank you ❤️

Hi, I haven’t but if your worried there should be a number on the leaflet that you can call?

The second lot of tablets made me feel shivery for a while but I don’t remember any side effects with the first.

I hope you’re ok x

Thank you for your reply. I spoke to them and they said these side effects are normal for some people. I’m just worried that because I felt so bad with the first one that the second ones are going to feel even worse!

can I also ask what pain relief you took please?x

I didn’t need any pain relief, but I am used to quite painful periods.

Lie down for half an hour after you’ve taken the second tablets and then move around as normal if you can as it makes the process quicker.

Aside from the shivering, I started with mild cramps and some spotting within 3 hours of the second tablets. The cramps increased so I sat on the loo for a while until everything had passed. Once that had happened the cramps stopped and my stomach was just a little achy. I bled for around 9 days but it was only heavy for a day or two.

Have paracetamol if you need it, I think they send codine in the pack but I didn’t use it. A hot water bottle if you have it, and a blanket and a book/phone for scrolling if you do choose to sit in the loo.

Do you have someone with you?

Sorry for my very late reply.

I do have someone with me and so far not so bad. The pain in my legs is causing me more distress than the subtle pain in my stomach (I suffer with pain such as aching in my thighs when I have a period). I haven’t yet inserted the next two tablets which I will do vaginally too with some gloves on as I’m not keen taking them orally at all and I spoke to a nurse who said that’s fine as I’ve already started bleeding. I’m passing some blood clots but very very small and minimal blood so far. Just like my normal period really. I’m surviving on just paracetamol so far as I’m saving the stronger stuff for later if the pain intensifies rapidly once I pass bigger clots and the pregnancy. Did you see your pregnancy end or was it a case of just waiting?

thank you for all your information x

I had the thigh pain too, and also get it during my period.

No I didn’t “see”, the cramps increased slightly and then eased so I assume it happened then, but I only had very small clots the entire time I’m bled, I even thought it hadn’t worked as I was expecting larger clots.

I’m glad you have someone with you, I took the last too vaginally while bleeding and it was fine, I just laid down for a while afterwards.

I hope it’s over soon for you and you can rest and recover x

The entire time I bled*

It was much like a normal period for me, just the bleeding lasted 9 days instead of my normal five x
