TA in schools

Is it unusual not to have a TA in year three? Have no idea what the norm is. Know school are struggling for money - we have requests for soap, tissues, books, craft supplies etc. 30-32 per class. Swimming has been cancelled as coach now too expensive. Money was raised to fix toilets a couple of years ago. Outstanding state school in outer London suburb.

Completely depends on the funding! My school has a TA for each class. The school my friend works at only 5 miles away has 1 TA per year group in a 2 form entry. It's a shame really because TA's are such a vital part of the school and an under appreciated, under our role!

Mine stated 1 TA with the three classes.

We don’t have TAs at all in the afternoons past reception and only have them in the morning in Y1/2. We have no money. Don’t vote conservative!

We didn't have them when I was at school, but agree, they are a huge help. It's a one form entry school, so no shared TA from the year group.

In my last school I taught a class of mixed Y3/Y4. There were 33 children, one of whom couldn’t speak English and four of whom working well below KS2 level. I had no TA (rest of the school did though). My class also had no lunchtime supervisor because she left and wasn’t replaced. This meant I had to do lunch duty as well as break duty daily. Needless to say, I’m not there anymore.

Painfully aware of the low value this govt places on kids and teachers.

Doing supply at the moment - much better work life balance, albeit much lower pay!
