Buffet Sandwiches: Can I butter the bread the night before?

I have to make A LOT of sandwiches for a buffet tomorrow. I've made all of the fillings and will make the butties fresh in the morning. I was thinking to save time I could open the loaves, butter them amd put them back in the packet overnight. would that work or would they go soggy?

Wouldn't the bread all stick together and make more work trying to separate them. Personally I would do it in the morning and make sure that the butter is soft and spread it on with a spatula or something similar to make it faster

Do you need to butter them if you have made fillings?

Ooh using a spatula is a good idea thank you! I thought they might stick together but I thought it would take me less time to pull them apart then to butter them in the morning 🤣.

Yeah I really do need to butter them, you heathen 🤣 an unbuttered sandwich is a crime!

I'm with a PP - I wouldn't butter if the filling is wet and/or fatty (eg egg mayo, tuna mayo), but would if it was ham/cold meat etc.
