Gym messing around with membership fees

I've signed up with a gym, am I allowed to name it? I've done it purely because it was hard finding swimming classes for my 4.5 yo DD and they have availability. I looked forward to it and enjoyed some of the classes and DD was happy with her swimming lessons. The facilities are quite average otherwise.

Joined mid June and paid the remaining June fees on my credit card. The direct debit started in July. I got overcharged on the first month (£117 instead of £110). When I joined I told them I'd like a membership break from Aug (they only do min 2 months) as we were away for most Aug. They said absolutely fine. So from Aug my monthly charge should have been £16.50, instead they charged me £66.60, an amount which makes absolutely no sense.

Weve been away in Aug then I called the bank at the end of the month to see what was the amount I was going to be charged on 1st Sept and they told me £66.60 at which point I cancelled the direct debit. In the meantime when I called them and asked to sort this out and they told me to file a complaint via the app. The app hasn't worked for me for over a month.

They are now sending me emails asking me for the £16.50 for the month of Sept. I sent a very detailed email describing this scenario and they are taking their time responding.

Quite frankly I have no desire to be with this gym anymore. Can I get out of this contract at all?

Probably not without paying a few months notice

I’m having a similar problem with a well known gym. I’m struggling to get hold of them and I can’t cancel the payments. Still taking money even though my contract with them has ended
