ADHD and psychosis

Does anyone have any experience of a history of psychosis and ADHD medication?

I last had psychosis over a year ago and was finally diagnosed with ADHD earlier this year. My psychiatrist is refusing to trial ADHD medication due to the risk of developing psychosis again, which he puts at nearly 50%.

I’ve had recommendations for private psychiatrists from my psychologist, my psychologist has spoken to one of them who said it’s a cautious yes rather than a big fat no.

As I’m doing a masters very soon I want to at least try them.

I have many reasons why I want to trial them, as I’m just a mess, I want to succeed. I’m hoping I can as I really need something to help.

I'd ask for a second opinion. I think there is evidence that methylphenidate does not increase risk of psychosis, certainly the 2019 lancet article seems to think so.

There are plenty of ADHD meds that neither increase the risk of psychosis nor induce it.

Thanks to you both.

I had read various things that said it’s possible and doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll have relapse of psychosis.
