Ds who is 13 is clearly going through puberty is overweight. He has been in the 90th percentile for weight since birth but over the summer holiday has put on weight. I obviously don’t want to give him a complex but need to get him thinking about what he is eating as he needs to take ownership himself. For context, he is autistic and I think he gets sensory feedback from eating which doesn’t help. In addition the school canteen doesn’t seem to have much in the way of healthy food. He doesn’t eat lunch from there but has been getting snacks there to “fit in with peers”
what low calorie foods and snacks can I put in his lunch so he feels like he has enough to eat but that won’t contribute to weight gain? I’m also mindful that he might be going through growth spurt and might shoot up at any point.

Given what you said about trying to fit in, I would focus more on what is available to eat at home. You have a much better chance of controlling breakfasts and dinners than school lunches. Whatever, you do, I would limit portion sizes rather than choice - easier in a large family!
