Birthday ideas for friends 40th - gifts and celebration

Hi,

I'm planning my friends 40th birthday celebration. I have 2 days to fill, we will have kids there part of the time but relatively flexible with that.

We can't go away, it is close to Christmas and I want to theme it somehow. Any ideas welcome including the theme (she loves a theme), gifts (she's one of these soppy sentimental types Grin) and celebration ideas.

I want to treat her so don't worry too much about budget. Thank you!

Firstly I’d like to know whether your friend has made the same sort of effort for you? There are so many threads here by posters who have expended time and thought and money on friends - only to receive nothing in return.

It's a good point but in this case, yes she did. She threw me a late party, just our two families due to lockdown restrictions and honestly, it was thoughtful and lovely. We're very close.

She deserves a brilliant birthday and her DH won't do anything for her (I'll be getting him involved, and money wise too).

One of my close friends is leaving to move abroad and I've got her a lovely friendship bracelet from Monica Vinader! I hope she will like and cherish it

Afternon tea or maybe if you have a garden grab some hay bales from a local farm they are really cheap cover them in blankets and get a fire pit going for supper under the stars,,the kids can join in too ,toast some marshmallows and get some hot chocolate going in the slow cooker play some country music and tell stories ,,you could borrow a gazebo too incase its not brill weather, We do these thingss all the time! Cheap and cheerful and cosy and chilled.

One of those blank 40 signs that everyone can sign could be good for a gift from all those that are there to celebrate her birthday.

Theme could be a colour - ie black & white or everyone wears something pink/blue/green/gold/whatever her favourite colour is. Easy to find decorations to go with that too.

Definitely get a cake - it’s not a birthday without cake!!

For a soppy centimental thing try making a birthday slideshow with her photos and pictures of the whole friend group! You can make a whole video and record everyone saying something nice about her, too, this is going to be heartmelting Grin
