My DD, 3 years old has just started at a local pre-school. Will i be charged for taking her on holiday 2 days before term finishes?

We've had this holiday booked for a while and no point lying as she's going to tell the world she went on a plane.

Just wondered if the rules were the same as technically it's not compulsory for a 3 year old to be in education?

You won’t get a refund on fees but you won’t be charged anything extra or fined if that’s what you mean.

confusednewbie · 09/09/2022 22:44

As in a fine? No you wont get one

You'll have to pay for the days but you won't get fined if that's what you mean?

Children do not legally have to attend school until the term after they turn five. But if you pay fees yes you will still pay.

Sorry that's me not wording OP correctly. The pre-school is part of a primary school

No that doesn't happen until they're 5

ShimmyYaYaYay · 09/09/2022 23:08

Right, thanks. I will make them aware then

Your child cannot be fined (as opposed to charged fees) for non-attendance until the term after their 5th birthday - so for summer b'day children that's actually Year 1. Even then most fines only kick in after 10 sessions - which is 5 school days so if you go away the week of the 1st May Bank Holiday (as we do for Helston Flora Day) or you take them out of school after Registration on Day 1, then you won't get fined. School attendance is important but it's not the bee all & end all of school.
