Waterproof bag

Hello, my son has just told me he’s being teased about his bag as it’s for hiking they’re saying. He has to walk a fair distance so I got him a roll top bag so that his stuff would stay dry. The kids are right and my son just want to fit in. He does t know what other kids are using as he’s not that observant and we’ve looked online and he just doesn’t know.

What do your secondary kids use? Or has anyone used the waterproofing spray? I was thinking I could just buy any brand depending on what was popular and spray it.

I really didn’t think this was going to be an issue.

Spraying a normal backpack won’t make it waterproof, as the stitching and zips will still be a source of leaking. Normally backpacks have a waterproof cover to keep things dry.
Could you maybe use waterproof liners inside a normal ‘cool’ backpack, they’ll keep things dry and you’d only see them if you actually looked inside the bag.

Can't you just hang around a city centre/ McDonalds when secondary schools end for the day? You'll be able to see which backpacks they wear. Then just use a waterproof bag inside it (I'd recommend spraying the outside still as it will reduce how much rain gets inside the bag).

My two at secondary school just use sports backpacks one has Adidas, the other just a Nike. But it's not a long trek to school
My eldest didn't like sports brands and used an Easpak backpack, and still does for uni

Vans or Nike around here. Carrier bag inside to keep contents dry.
