What do you do with old schoolbooks?

Have just discovered that my mother still has a pile of my old exercise books from school - I'm 50! I'm not bothered about them, not interested enough to even take a look through to be honest, which is making me wonder why I have a similar pile of my kids books. What do you do with them? How long do you keep them? DD1 wanted to burn them on the last day of school, am starting to wish that we had. What happens/happened in your house?

Generally the books go in the recycling bin and any work I really like or they’re particularly proud of gets kept in the loft but never really looked at again. Ds has a box of books from last year in his room that I keep wanting to throw out but he thinks he might need them, the sight of them is irritating me a bit.

I used to keep everything but when we last had a clear out and I was seeing books full of handwriting practice I did try to get a grip.

Generally speaking put in the recycle bin. I have kept about three school books of mine. I have a couple of my dc's. You cant keep them all unless you have a large storage space.

In primary school we kept them for a couple of months and then DH and I looked through them for anything important, scanned it and it went into the paper recycling.

Secondary - DD put them away during the summer holidays apart from Y10 as they need them for GCSE revision.
Subjects she didn't take like geography and RE were ceremonially burnt to exorcise bad feelings.

I tear out any unused paper to be used as scrap paper then chuck the rest in the recycling bin

Keep a few for interest, recycle the rest.

Mine are primary. I keep the more interesting ones where there's photos and some actual work (mine are not natural writers)
Most go in the recycling bin. There's too many each year to keep everything.
