Piercing advice! Please help!

So I had my nose Pericles earlier in the year. I developed a piercing bump and after trying a few things it totally healing up using hemeroid cream 🙈 My lericing was settled for a good few months and I changed it last week to a hoop. The first hoop I got was very thing so I got a new one which was the same thickness as my original stud!
It was really hard to get in.... my poor nose did take quite a lot tugging and miss shoving if you get my drift!
Anyway... a week on it's still very red and soar. No discharge or anything like that... just if I knock it (which my son did today) or if I was to twist it it becomes really sore.
I cleaned it with salty water just now but I'm just not sure if I should be using anything else?

Pic to show the redness! The redness took a while to go down originally too. I just wish this piercing would settle!

Oh my god please ignore all of the typos! I have no excuse 😳

It looks like it might be getting infected? Plus the ring looks too tight but might be the photo. I'd LITFA for now - maybe a cold (cooled boiled) salted swab to make it feel nicer and ibuprofen if it's swollen.

Cupofteaonesugar · 08/09/2022 22:33

It is a smaller ring but my nose isn't squashed and if it didn't hurt it could twist around without being soar 🙈
I'm wondering if I should just switch to a small stud though?
I used salty water tonight but wondering if I should use anything stronger if an infection is brewing 😬

What's the ring made of? It looks more like a reaction to the metal to me......

dementedpixie · 08/09/2022 22:41

Stop moving the piercing as that sets back the healing process

OneFrenchEgg · 08/09/2022 22:43

I wouldn't change it again if it isn't tight. I always found hoops less likely to cause issues than studs.
I had a horrible time with a stud and the GP gave me naso something cream which was brilliant but also maybe go back to your piercer? Mine was helpful.

PinkButtercups · 08/09/2022 22:46

This is my 1.2mm ring. Had it pierced for about 12 years.

Never had it looked as sore as yours. Did they pierce if with a needle or gun?

Also never downsize your original size it was pierced with. Did you leave it about 6 weeks before you changed to a ring? I was told to leave mine for about 2 months before changing it the stud over to a ring.

It looks a bit infected.

GoodVibesHere · 08/09/2022 22:47

Agree LITFA is the way forward

Hotandbothereds · 08/09/2022 22:51

I had a piercing that wouldn’t heal and I ordered this stuff and it cleared it up brilliantly

So I waited about 6 months before I changed it. It was definitely ready to be changed as the originally stud was just so big and the sharp end kept giving me nose bleeds 😳
It's made out of surgical steel.
I agree it might be getting infected and I wouldn't be suprised as I had a real hard time getting the pricing in :( and I definitely do need to not touch it but I just don't know what to do with it now!

@Hotandbothereds the link isn't working I'm afraid! What's the name of the product you used?

I had similar, nose bump then an infection. Antibiotics cleared it up straight away.

VentBox · 09/09/2022 07:43

Try a tumeric or chamomile tea bag, as hot as you can manage. Hold it on until its cold, and repeat for a few days.

Did you have to have oral antibiotics or was it a cream?

Just to say I know someone who's piercing never healed until they put gold in.

Surgical steel, and any others that were meant to be good made it worse.

Oral tablets

Cupofteaonesugar · 09/09/2022 13:27

I've booked an app with the gp as I don't want it to get any worse. I've not touched it since I made this thread apart from when it's been cleaned but I accidentally brushed past it before and all my skin around it felt bruised which can't be a good sign 😳
Hope I'm doing the right thing!

You should visit a (reputable) piercer before the gp.
9/10 a gp will say it’s looking infected and tell you to take it out.
they don’t have the knowledge or experience when it comes to body piercings.

My experience in the industry tells me that jewellery looks a bit too tight,
changing jewellery on a relatively new piercing is always going to be traumatic, but it sounds like you caused quite a lot of trauma, please don’t be that rough in future.
(I say relatively new because generally anything under a year old is probably still in the healing process so can be traumatised easily)

it’s only been 5 days, I would recommend just continuing sea salt soaks over the weekend and keep an eye on it.
do not twist the ring, ever.
don’t touch it at all if you can.

I would say infection is unlikely, I think it’s just angry due to the trauma.

Cupofteaonesugar · 09/09/2022 17:39

Ahhh thanks for the input everyone!
The go said he thinks it's infected as the surrounding area hurts and there was some oozyness.
He gave me antibiotics but said i need to consider if it's a reaction to the material which has made me worry?
I have other piercings which haven't reacted like this so surely not?
Hoping it just clears up now 😳

Nose progress 🙈
I actually think it looks better after 2 rounds of antibiotics so I'm hoping that it's on the mend now and it was just an infection!
I'm thinking maybe I should change it to a titanium hoop when it's totally healed though but get a piercing person to change it 🙈 is that a good idea or should I just leave it be for a few months?

Looks loads better op.

I've tried changing mine myself and always end up irritating it, so for the sake of a few quid I go to my local tattooist (who did the piercing) and get them to do it. I also find their jewellery is so much better than I've bought online. I've got several piercings, but have found my nose the most troublesome, and the only one to get infected.

TwowaystoUrmston · 10/09/2022 10:28

Yes I would go back and take the piercers advice about whether to change to a thinner or titanium ring, they will know what's best. My piercer is all about the aftercare and is more than happy to change jewellery, give advice etc.

Matildahoney · 10/09/2022 10:31

I found the constant moving of the hoop irritated it, get a stud, put that in, it'll heal
