Why am I dreaming about a very distant ex?

I keep having really weird and vivid dreams about a guy I had a bit of a thing with at uni. He was totally gorgeous and also sort of with someone else and it was all very dramatic and exciting and adolescent.
This was in 1998! I’m now in my forties with 3 kids and a dh whom I love very much.
This guy popped up on my Instagram a few weeks ago. O had a little nosey into his life. Laughed a bit at how old we both are. Nothing major. I’ve only seen him once since uni. I was almost 30, bumped in to him in a bar and we both reminisced a bit. He apologised for treating me badly. I laughed because I never really saw it that way.

But my dreams are crazy and can’t move on. Mostly him turning up in random places. Last nights one was slightly sexy and unsettling!

Help me mumsnet?! Why is this happening? I’ve alleys been a very vivid dreamer.

It happens to be too. Weird, random dreams about people/ men in my past. I don't think it's that unusual. Just your brain's way of processing stuff.

If it was dramatic and exciting and your life now is more settled, it might be your subconscious injecting a bit of fun fizz into your dreams!

There's one person from my youth who I still dream of reasonably regularly, often kissing, sometimes more. Someone with whom something should have happened, but somehow never did.

You would probably dream about anyone that "popped up" after a long time. I don't think that because he is an ex that it has any particular signifcance unless you're subconciously hoping it does and want people that answer to feed those thoughts.
