My elderly tumble dryer just died.

To be fair it is VERY old and second hand when we got it. Hadn't been used since April but now with a load every day (grown men in uniform) and rain... need it!
Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for. Obviously we want to use it as little as possible, but we do need one!

If I was in your situation, I would be looking at one with a heat exchange pump (I may have the wrong jargon there) that will cost more but will use less energy. I would be avoiding the one on the Housekeeping thread that takes eight hours to dry a load though!

Energy efficiency rating.

Heat
Pump one. Slightly more up front but saves on electric bills!

Don't get a heat pump if your dryer is in a cold room though. Ours is in a garage so heat pump wouldn't be very effective.

Thank you. I'll go look at heat pump ones . I hate that we will still need one, but haven't enough space to just hang everything inside!

We have a heat pump and it’s brilliant. Fast and energy efficient. We are still trying not to use it at the moment, but it’s reassuring to know that when we do need it, it won’t bankrupt us.
