Ideas of how to tell DC9 they are going to be a sibling again?

Currently pregnant with DC3. I have a 9 year old and 1 year old.

When I was pregnant with DC2 I done a scratch card type thing for DC1.

Now pregnant with DC3 and no clue on how to break the news to DC1 and DC2. DC2 is too young to undserstand but I wouldn't leave her out of it.

Don't want to go down the route of the scratch card again as DC1 will know what it is right away she's quite clever that way.

So any ideas or feel free to share what you done/how you broke the news to DC.

Just tell them without gimmicks or something where they feel they have to out in a big jolly face. Have an actual conversation so your 9 year
old is free to talk about any concerns without having to feign delight at a scratch card

Are they definitely doing to be up for a new sibling? I always feel like these are sort of good ideas in principle but there's an expectation of the 'right' reaction from a child. Can't you just tell her when you are all together and manage any response?

"Hey DC, I have some wonderful news. You're going to be a big sister/brother again!"

How else would you tell them?

Buy DC2 a top that says "big sister" and see how long it takes DC1 to notice.

Just tell them. Their new sibling isn't a present for them so no need to dress it up that way.

A scratch card? How does that work?

Surely you just tell them Confused

M24L · 07/09/2022 16:43

@emmathedilemma that's actually quite a cute idea.

@ZeroFuchsGiven it was a card which said DC1's name and then it said you have a super duper important job, there was a love heart scratch bit which was scratched then it said your going to be a big sister. Inside the card we wrote a few words for DD and she absolutely loved it she was over the moon with it and actually still displays it on her dressing table to this day.

All other comments I just wanted to make it a bit fun for oldest DC. She loves things like that she popped the balloon to find out if she was having a sister or brother so she does like to be involved and loves the excitement.

The scratch card sounded fun! I would never think of anything like that, did you have it made spcially or is it something you can buy?

How about taking them shopping but dont say where and just go to mothercare (is that even still a shop?) or somewhere like that and start filling your basket with baby bits. Or even Asda and throw a few baby grows or booties in and see how long it takes her to realise Grin

Just tell them Confused

noclothesinbed · 07/09/2022 16:57

Just tell her ?

Cas112 · 07/09/2022 16:58

Just say 'Your going to have a baby brother or sister again'

M24L · 07/09/2022 17:26

@ZeroFuchsGiven it was bought from etsy and just personalised with her name, the I side of the card was blank so we just wrote in it for her. She showed it to everyone that wanted to see it haha.

That's another good idea she would be like wth is going on 🤣🤣.
