A spider… on my arm… in bed

Booklover3 · 07/09/2022 03:01

Laying in bed minding my own business when a bloody spider crawls up my arm… black body with what looked like a white bit on its middle. Not massive but big enough.

How am I meant to sleep now 😭 I managed to get it, but I am very pathetic with spiders… I keep feeing phantom ghostly touches everywhere and jump in case it’s another one.

I know I’m pathetic. Hate them. Wish I didn’t. I need to sleep :( can’t sleep. Argh!

Oh my god! I can’t think of anything worse. Hope you’re ok. Just the other day i contacted a hypnotherapist as we had a massive one in the kitchen and i had to ask a neighbour to come rescue us. You are definitely not pathetic, no one chooses to be afraid of spiders and soooo many people are. I hope you managed to get some sleep again! 😬

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 07/09/2022 05:54

Burn the house down, you have no other viable option.

ProperVexed · 07/09/2022 05:56

I had this last night. Just drifting off to sleep and felt a tickle on my throat. I put my hand up to scratch it and came into contact with something. I immediately brushed it away ( very hard) whilst simultaneously leaping out of bed screaming and trying to find the light switch.
I eventually found a dead spider on my very patterned duvet cover which took a while! The bastard!
As a consequence I slept poorly...ever little tickle or feeling needed checking out. I'm still rubbing my throat! Ghastly!

Get a cat.

MyMumSaysALot · 07/09/2022 06:15

Last night I was lying in bed watching tv.
Drank the last bit of water so I went in the kitchen.
Turned on the kitchen light to get more water.
THERE WAS A SPIDER INSIDE MY GLASS 🕷

honkeytonkwoman38 · 07/09/2022 06:17

Jesus wept!

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 07/09/2022 13:55

Sounds like a false widow.
Be extremely careful because they give extremely nasty bites that people often end up on antibiotics for

SpinningFloppa · 07/09/2022 13:58

Why do people suggest cats? my cat has never eaten a spider or fly or moth, maybe it’s broken 🤔

ThisisCollie2022 · 07/09/2022 14:02

Weird question OP but do you have a divan base that can be "crawled up?"

DH and I are looking at new beds and I'm convinced a metal bed frame is fine so nothing can crawl or climb up the side. 🤣

I'm probably wrong though!

Made me laugh, as that literally is my thought process when choosing bedroom furniture 😆

MarshaMelrose · 07/09/2022 14:22

I was reading my book in bed and one ran over my chest! I'm happy to share my house with spiders - they're the good guys but I draw the line at my bed!

MarshaMelrose · 07/09/2022 14:24

Spiders can climb up metal. But they're more likely to climb up and down the wall.

Ilovetocrochet · 07/09/2022 14:39

I can top that! Two nights ago, I was struggling to get to sleep so it was 2am when I decided to stop reading. I got up for last trip to bathroom and saw a dirty great slug on my bedroom carpet! There had been a smaller one a couple of weeks before but I’d been out late at night in my dressing gown to the bins so assumed it had come in on my slippers.

I have no issue removing slugs on a bit a card as they do not move fast so I dealt with it and decided to try to find where it had come from in the morning
( downstairs bedroom). Just as I was in bed again and reaching over to switch off side light, I spotted a hairy spider on the carpet just a few inches away! I shot out of bed, got my trusty spider catcher, ran back across room, tripped over duvet cover, fell on floor and batteries fell out of the catcher! Fortunately the spider seemed to be stunned by my acrobatic performance and had not moved so once I re inserted the batteries I slowly edged forward. It was so big it barely fitted inside the tube, left a leg behind actually! It then went to its death down the toilet.

I then spent the rest of the night with the light on, twitching and scanning the room constantly! In the morning I got a torch to hunt for the snail trail to see if I could see where it came in to no avail but I did see loads on trails under my bed at the pillow end! I have a wooden bed on a frame so easy to move to clean but there were no visible clues as to how the bugger got in.

So now, every time I get up for a toilet visit, the light goes on and I hunt for creatures underneath my bed!

MarshaMelrose · 07/09/2022 14:48

Nooooo, don't kill spiders. They're goodies and kill off the other bugs.

But slugs. They're a nightmare in the house. I hope you get to the bottom of it!

Rebelmcstreettuff · 07/09/2022 14:48

3 days running we have had big fat hairy ones!
It's usually the dog who spots them.
Had to send my 19 year old son back to uni with the spider catcher.
We are a house of wimps 😱

Bambooshoot · 07/09/2022 15:19

I’ve not had them in the bed but once got trapped in the bathroom as there was a huntsman spider in the doorway, they are bigger than my hand, just unnecessarily large, had to phone my boyfriend to rescue me (and then burn the house down, obviously). Also when living rurally I twice - twice! had to fish a dead squirrel out of the toilet for a proper burial (they don’t flush). Felt very bad for them, and a little creeped out in case the house had been built over a squirrel holy site where they sent their sacrifices . . .

That won’t save you. They’ll walk up the wall, shimmy along the ceiling until they’re over your face, then lower themselves down for a snuggle in your ear 😂

I remember getting out of bed one morning, looking back at the sheet where I’d been laying and seeing the squished body of the biggest, hairiest spider I’d ever seen in my life. This thing was wearing hobnail boots and a hat, it was that big.

I didn’t think that house spiders spin webs? They bite instead! (Which might be why we’re scared of them)

ThisisCollie2022 · 07/09/2022 20:16

Ssssssh don't ruin it 🤣

@CoffeeIsForClosers and I are happy and deluded in our non spidery furniture worlds!!

My friend woke up with a house spider actually IN her ear....

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/09/2022 20:38

I can't believe how many are around already this year.

Last night my DD brought her potty to me and it had 2 massive spiders in it. They didn't even move when she was running with them. Had no success with potty training so those bloody spiders have now put us back even further.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/09/2022 20:49

I think I've jinxed myself mentioning the ones last night as one just jumped at me in my bedroom. Didn't realise it was in a pile of baby clothes and disturbed it. It didn't survive very long!

Starting to think that the big bite I have on my leg might be from one of these buggers.

Booklover3 · 07/09/2022 20:51

Jesus… I was hoping to sleep tonight 😢

It is a Devan yes! Going to burn the bloody thing.

Thankfully I don’t think I was bitten… not that i could tell anyway!!

Hi ! Oh my ! I had the same thing the other day. 😱 It was the same as you, large black with a white bit in the middle!
I was in bed, I had just had the last sip of my drink and put it down on my window shelf, (all fine) turned out the light, and was sat on my phone. 15 minutes later, I felt this tickle on my face so I brushed it off, felt it again on my arm, thought it wasn’t right so I turned my torch on my phone and I saw it and flicked it off me ! I saw it stare at me…. 🤣 then it ran… TOWARDS ME… I jumped up ⬆️ My partner woke up in the chaos and luckily sorted it for me. I was absolutely terrified and have felt itchy since so I know that sensation you are talking about. You are not silly for feeling the way you felt. Worse thing is, I was caught off guard because it was in the dark !! 😭😭🤣🤣 I hope this helps to know u wasn’t alone, I’m hoping it will never happen again ! X
