Help! Voucher for 17 yo girl?!

I've been invited over to a new colleague's house on Saturday for a BBQ and it turns out it's also her daughter's 17th birthday. I can't turn up empty handed but haven't the foggiest what to get her, plus I'm working all week so have limited opportunity to get to the shops Confused given that I don't know them that well I'm thinking a voucher is probably safest but I don't even really know what kind of shops late teen girls are into these days! Can anyone suggest a safe option??

The safest option is probably an Amazon voucher

MrsEricBana · 05/09/2022 21:38

Bodyshop?

MrsEricBana · 05/09/2022 21:39

Or bunch of flowers?

dementedpixie · 05/09/2022 21:39

Amazon probably
You can buy the cards in supermarkets

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/09/2022 21:40

Superdrug because they have a good choice of makeup? Lush? Hmv?

dementedpixie · 05/09/2022 21:40

Nice chocolates maybe

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 05/09/2022 21:40

Cash. Tenner in a card, no hassle, will be appreciated.

Dreikanter · 05/09/2022 21:41

^^ As above, Bank of England vouchers.

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 05/09/2022 21:45

Amazon voucher was my first thought but I want sure if I was missing something else obvious (apart from cash Grin). Thanks everyone, will mull it over a bit more in case inspiration strikes. Though actually I quite like the bodyshop idea - takes me back to when I was 18 Smile

Porseb · 05/09/2022 22:07

Zara

mistopheles · 05/09/2022 22:29

Waterstones voucher. Who doesn't love that!

bloodyunicorns · 05/09/2022 22:33

Costa/Starbucks voucher or Superdrug/Boots, or one that can be used at restaurants eg Wagamamas.

bloodyunicorns · 05/09/2022 22:34

Not Amazon - my Dc always sell their Amazon vouchers to me!

PhotoDad · 05/09/2022 22:34

I think it depends on the girl! So Amazon or cash is safest.

FusionChefGeoff · 05/09/2022 22:34

Costa would go down very well with a 17 year old I know!

dementedpixie · 05/09/2022 22:50

Money in a card and a tub of heroes

allboysherebutme · 05/09/2022 23:41

Amazon.
Cash.
Lush.
New Look.

nancy75 · 06/09/2022 00:06

No to most of the above from my 17 year old. She suggested ASOS voucher because the do lots of brands/price points

pumpkinpie01 · 06/09/2022 06:35

Was just about to say ASOS or a Boots one

bare · 06/09/2022 06:38

If it's a new colleague and a daughter you've never met, I would go quite low key to be honest. Costa would be fine

chocolateisavegetable · 06/09/2022 08:31

I wouldn’t do Body Shop in case she has sensitive skin. Superdrug gives more options or Amazon

Anothernamechangeplease · 06/09/2022 08:40

My dd is 17. She would be grateful for any kind gesture, but there is no way that she would choose vouchers for most of the shops listed above.

DD would probably choose Urban Oufitters, but that won't be to everyone's taste. She quite likes Zara. Doesn't shop at any of the other clothes shops mentioned above and might struggle to use a voucher.

Cash would be fine.
Amazon would be a boring but fairly safe bet.
Costa/Starbucks etc - she would be grateful but she prefers independent coffee shops so wouldn't usually use the chains
Body shop/Lush - doesn't use
Super drug - would use but for "functional" stuff not treats.
Waterstones - she would like it and use it.

I've would either ask the parents or just give cash/Amazon vouchers personally.

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 06/09/2022 11:57

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think I've decided to go with a voucher for an independent café near to where she lives - there should be something there to choose from!
