Couple asked me to buy them drinks

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for this but saw a similar question about bar do's-and-don'ts posted and hope someone will help me figure this out. I'm a guy, and I was having a beer in a bar last night and a couple (guy and girl, maybe mid-20s?) waved me over. When I got to their table the guy asks me, (word for word), "Hey, do you want to buy us drinks?"

I looked at the girl who kind of looked eyes-wide horrified, and I said, "No, sorry" and walked away.

But I kept wondering what that was, my mind ranging in hypothetical answers from them just being lame and wanting to get free drinks to them plotting to rob me to this being some new way to suss out someone for a possible threesome. Anyone out there know what was going on?

Moochers. You gave the right reply.

NuffSaidSam · 05/09/2022 19:17

Either she dared him to as a joke or they were looking for a threesome or he was trying some Derren Brown mind control stuff.

GoodVibesHere · 05/09/2022 19:22

He did it for a joke I expect (a stupid joke).

Filmname · 05/09/2022 19:26

Sounds like he was trying to embarrass his girlfriend for some reason and dragged you into it.

Idunnowhyibother · 05/09/2022 19:41

Or they were swingers....

CanThisBe · 05/09/2022 19:43

Could they have been underage and unable to get served? I know you said mid 20s, but I can't tell with young people these days!

Charlize43 · 05/09/2022 19:51

They may of been influencers or something.

I walked into a boutique in Chelsea to witness a terrific row going on between a customer who didn't want to pay for items of clothing because she claimed to be 'an influencer'. The boutique owner wasn't having it!

Bollindger · 05/09/2022 20:05

A few years ago I would have said after a 3 some, well he was not her.
Now i think he thinks he is famous and you should have know who he was, she was embarrassed.

Thoughtful2355 · 05/09/2022 20:32

I initially thought Swingers or 3some OR he was pretending to give that impression to get free drinks.

Now i want to know how good looking you are to see what way they were possibly leaning :D

Boreded · 05/09/2022 20:54

Definitely looking for their third. But they should have offered to buy you one lol

Confusd32 · 05/09/2022 22:45

Haha, @Thoughtful2355 , yeah, that's the question, right? Hard to answer, but the movie star most people say I look like is Carey Elwes (The Princess Bride's Farmboy). I'm definitely NOT as good looking as he is but that's sort of the "type." Longish blond hair, nice smile, blue-gray eyes. I'm medium build, not at all heavy, and "fit," so that's sort of a plus. But I'm not ever someone to turn all heads in a room. Even when I was in my 20s and that was many moons ago.

To @CanThisBe , no, the bar IDs people to even enter, so if they were in there, they were 21 or over.

Still remains a mystery, but this thread has been great. Thanks so much for the comments, all!

My bets He was a cheap scape who only brought out £10 and she was mortified by his behaviour.

Seraphinesupport · 05/09/2022 22:50

@Confusd32 ohhh he's cute though! People think I look like saoirse Ronan and Jennifer Lawrence had a baby

Nsky62 · 05/09/2022 22:51

Glad you said no

CherrySocks · 05/09/2022 23:00

People who know about this sort of thing: Shouldn't they have offered to buy him a drink if they wanted to invite him into a threesome?

Penguinsaregreat · 05/09/2022 23:04

I’m thinking 3 some too.

JubileeTissues · 05/09/2022 23:09

He thought you were looking at his "bird"

Hopefully she's got rid

Confusd32 · 05/09/2022 23:21

@Seraphinesupport , Carey Elwes is definitely good looking, not sure I'm at that caliber though. And you are probably crazy hot, based on the "Saoirse Ronan and Jennifer Lawrence had a baby" comment, but not quite sure that's where this thread should be going.

I would agree, though, with @CherrySocks , if I'm the invitee, wouldn't they be buying ME a drink?

It still just baffles me. (But I'm the guy someone has to club with a baseball bat and drag to a cave before I realize someone likes me, so maybe that was it, a veiled invite for a threesome.) I will likely never know. Many thanks though to the responses, you've helped me figure it out, for sure.

@Whataboutitthen This is fascinating...seems almost like it could have been what this was, too. Wish I could go back and ask them, now. Lol.
