Hi,

This is probably a stupid question, but my DC has just started year one and brought home a reading book she has already read in reception. I'm guessing they're just assessing where the kids are/recapping a bit? She did read it in the summer term, so not it's like way back at the start.

Am I being a twat for even worrying about this?

Was today the first day back?

I doubt they have had a chance to listen to any of them read if so. It'll just be something to get the children back into daily reading at home while they sort out the levels.

They may not have checked what books they have already had, just picked one from the book band she was last assessed on… I honestly wouldn’t worry. My twins brought home the same (annoying) reading book one week and I still wonder if I had done something to annoy them or if they genuinely didn’t realise 😁😁😁

Not at all. Definitely nothing to worry about though - it may be that she's on the same level as the end of last year but the don't record the exact books she's already had. Or they might have reassessed and she's regressed slightly to an earlier level, which is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Or perhaps they've not assessed at all yet and guessed.

Leave it a couple of weeks and then ask the teacher if you're still worried.

It’s very common for children to start where they left off. Some children go back a bit after the break before catching up again. Ao
no need to worry.

MuggleMe · 05/09/2022 18:29

There's an expectation that they need to ease back in. Some parents won't have read with their child all summer so reading a familiar book is less daunting if they've forgotten a bit.

You’re overthinking. It may happen again they won’t have easy access to last term’s records. They will be reassessed soon (and they may well regress a bit over the summer too).

Second day back so very early days.

Thank you for, the reassurance, I knew I was being a twat really but the confirmation has put my mind at rest!
