Duvet as Mattress topper

I bought a new mattress as the old one was very saggy. The new one is much too firm. It's an expensive mistake. It's wool because I can't bear anything man made as I get so hot at night.
Wool mattress toppers are very expensive and I don't want to throw good money after bad.
I thought about buying a double sized wool duvet to use as a mattress topper on a KS bed?
Any thoughts? It's half the price of a proper topper.

I’ve used old duvets as mattress toppers before - it’s not as good as using a proper one but absolutely fine as it’s essentially the same thing anyway.

That's all I use. I just make sure it's a thick duvet that's all. It works fine for me

I think a topper has a different construction from a duvet, more pockets(?) to stop the filling runckling up when you move about on it.

I’m surprised that wool is cooler than a proper synthetic topper TBH. I got mine during the menopausal night sweaters and I didn’t find it especially hot, also of course it is washable. Maybe you could try a cheapish topper and give it a whirl? Probably a cheaper mistake than a wool duvet.

good luck it’s so disappointing when you make this sort of mistake.

I have used duvets for this too, but mire because my mattress was old and lumpy and I couldn't afford a new one.

Whenever the weather is nice if you can stick the duvet on the line particularly on windy days and it fluffs it back up and it even more comfy when you get back into bed with a pre-fluffed duvet !

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen I got wool duvets when menopausal and they were fabulous. Can't use under mattress as I have singles. DH has a thick duvet and I have thin ones.
I've got plenty of KS manmade duvets. I'll try one of those first.
