18 year old token gifts

I'm after census of opinion please

I have several 18 birthdays coming up where token presents will be acceptable

I'm thinking of putting together a gift pack of things like anti spiking drinks scrunchies, straws etc as no doubt they'll all be experiencing night clubs etc for the first time soon.

So MN, good idea or not? Opinions please.

Token gifts often just mean more landfill, kind of the equivalent of party bags for kids. Give a token ten pounds instead, will be most more appreciated

emmathedilemma · 05/09/2022 11:46

I'd go something like Costa coffee gift cards or cinema vouchers etc.

PeekAtYou · 05/09/2022 11:48

I'd go for vouchers, cash or a lottery ticket /scratch card.

Brown beer tokens are very acceptable for 18 year olds!

Needmorelego · 05/09/2022 22:11

It's a bit patronising tbh. I had zero interest in going to pub/clubbing at 18. I would have preferred a book voucher.

sidewayswalking · 05/09/2022 22:11

I actually think that's a really weird thing to give someone as a birthday present. I'm sure there are many other token gifts

mistopheles · 05/09/2022 22:12

No sorry your idea isn't great. Go with cash or a voucher as suggested above.

CameraSly · 05/09/2022 22:18

Ok.

Thanks everyone.

Cash or vouchers are highly appreciated at that age. You can make Smartsgow 3d video cards instead of usual ones as a nice adding, but that would be it from me.

Their birthday is an awful time to remind girls how at risk they are of sexual violence. Any time the rest is the year would be ok. Do these things even work?

Newusernameaug · 06/09/2022 11:25

Yeah that’s a bit of a rubbish idea - on your birthday, here this is to stop you getting spiked and date raped!

Those saying beer tokens - I have an 18 yr old who doesn’t drink alcohol.

just money or vouchers that can easily be spent

Mrsjayy · 06/09/2022 11:26

Oh don't do that as a pp said its their birthday but here's a "safety kit " just in case somebody wants to harm you down the pub. Give them a gift card instead,
