Bright colours to match Victorian floor tiles

I’m sure rainbow stair risers are a bit out of date now, but I’ve always wanted some.

What would go with murky brown Victorian floor tiles? Mine are these exact colours but less holey. Walls are white.

TBH I think you need colours that tone with those in the tiles on the walls and on the stairs. They don't have to be a slavish match, but I think bright rainbow colours would look very odd. Personally I would choose and match one colour from the floor and do all the the risers in that, but perhaps a spectrum of shades based on eg grey or terracotta in light to dark might give a subtle rainbow effect?

I absolutely love Victorian tiles but you can't fight them! They will always win Grin

Thanks you're right an ombre would work. Was hoping for sort of dusky muted rainbow. Looking at Google some tiles have pale blue in the mix , wish ours did , I would pick that out! Don't think I can stand any extra terracotta so might have to do the grey 😑

Ombre! That's the word.

My love comes from being brought up in a house with a very elaborate Minton hall and there was a delicate pale blue in those (which the hall walls were painted) As suggested, ochre could look very good.

Oh I love ochre and hadn’t even noticed that 🤦‍♀️ Ochre ombre would be nice.

here’s the muted rainbows I was hoping for. Just ochre mixing with white would be easier though 🤔

I like the colours in that muted rainbow, but I think with such a busy floor, one colour on the stairs would suit better. Maybe pick out the other rainbow shades in decor, like painting picture frames in them and having a cluster of photos up the wall?

If it's any comfort OP, I occasionally look longingly at the reproduction ones and have just checked; very similar pattern to the one in your photo, £399.79 a square metre, obviously before the (considerable) cost of laying.
