Cheap prescription glasses

My prescription has changed a lot. Got two pairs I need (one reading/one general) from options as cheap as I could.
I also need prescription sunglasses - I should have thought about this before. Where can I buy cheaply - online is fine. Issue is the frames are cheap but then you discover you need to pay another £XXX for lenses and £xxx for this and that extra so impossible to compare based on frame cost alone.

Glasses direct are really good

Iolla are great if you are near one of their centres - I think they are just in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester at the moment though. One price, no sneaky add ons.

I got my varifocals from Asda. They were £80 ish whatever the prescription

I use select specs for all my glasses. Lenses aren't too bad at all.

I really rate Glasses Direct. We have three very young kids and they grab at my glasses and bend them. I pay to have my prescription done at Boots and then buy them offline - they will let you try a few pairs but I know my face shape and what works and I've always just gone for a frame choice that I've loved.

Works out as about £40 per pair if you take advantage of seasonal discounts and keep the lense coverings not too fancy.

I use goggles4u - delivery can take a week or two but their prices can stay very low.

Firmoo are good and have so many different styles . It took two weeks but they were worth it!

Coming on to say Glasses Direct too

Iolla are lovely and cheaper than most, but not cheap.

I've had loads of success with Firmoo as others have said - even their cheapest shipping doesn't take that long and their lens packages are great value.

If you know your pupillary distance and don't have a hugely complex prescription, zenni optical are excellent.

I last bought a couple of years ago but got glasses and sunglasses for under £20 each, still going strong.

I just had 2 pairs of glasses from Asda for £125. Great service and great glasses. Previously I have always used Specsavers but will now stick with Asda.

Asda are very cheap. But - if you are quite short sighted and need varifocals you might not find them particularly great. I’m -9.50 both eyes with astigmatism and varifocals and got some from Asda but I really couldn’t see very well - the range of vision from the lenses just wasn’t good at all compared to my usual ones from my local independent opticians (these were £500, Asda ones £80). Asda agreed to refund them and said if you were used to better lenses there’s no way they could compete with them.

Glasses Direct - more expensive than it looks at first if you add on different lenses etc, but still cheaper than High St.

Vari focals in particular be aware pay cheap you may end up with a very short intermediate and reading area.

glasses direct are excellent. If you don’t mind style and fashion going out of the window - buy some of those clip on flip up sunshades for glasses. (Very 1969/70s style). They are a lot cheaper than buying another frame and lenses and tints..

I'm on my second pair of £45 Asda varifocals (the first pair lasted four years but my prescription changed) and I'm very pleased with them.

We've had good experiences with Glasses Direct too.

I guess it depends on your definition of cheap. They are not the cheapest out there, but they use high quality lenses - I don't think you'll get the equivalent out there, cheaper. Not an issue if you have a straightforward prescription, but for a complex prescription, the quality of the lenses makes a huge difference. I would rather pay a bit more for iolla and get glasses that I can use, than a bit less at Asda and have less than optimal vision.

For what you get, imo, iolla is cheap. For something of similar quality elsewhere I was looking at 3 or 4 times the price.

Glasses direct are good.

Asda - the price you see is what you pay, including lens thinning (essential for my prescription!). Had a few pairs from there with no problems.

I’ve used glasses direct before but this year I ordered from select specs.
My glasses cost a total of £22, which included an upgrade to the BlueGuard lens. They are really nice glasses, I’m very pleased with them.

This is exactly my experience with Asda.
