I'm sorry - I don't understand what you mean.

KnickerlessParsons · 04/09/2022 23:30

Is he showing any of the symptoms associated with having elevated B12?

Nfixon · 05/09/2022 08:46

If you google "elevated b12" there is loads of information available.

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/09/2022 00:16

841 in what measurement?

Is the fortini something he is being prescribed for medical reasons? It is intended for use under medical supervision so surely your GP can advise on why your son's b12 is so high or whether that needs correcting and if this is of urgent concern. You need to speak to your child's GP if you're concerned OP, particularly if you think the fortini is the cause of this. You don't say what, if any, existing conditions he has but I would want it investigating further if a child that young is in need of liquid nutrition and other medical issues haven't been ruled out.

Presumably it was your GP who ran these tests so they will be expecting to discuss it with you at some point if they are at all concerned about it.

Potato28 · 06/09/2022 00:19

Only your GP / Person who requested the tests can answer your question

Nfixon · 08/09/2022 20:39

@dontgobaconmyheart my paediatrician asked for these tests my son is poorly a lot so she wanted him to get checked out as he don’t eat never has really only 2 stone so he tiny hence the milkshakes drinks. I’m worried as the normal blood count was clotted and he also had a few lymph nodes checked in the past and now high b12 my anxiety so high atm don’t no how I’m going to wait 10 weeks for another blood test xxx

Bless him OP, I hope the test come back with reassuring results. I do think if the GP was concerned it was urgent they would say so. The high B12 might be due to the fact he is supplementing with the meal replacements, especially if he is such a low weight.

Is your GP looking into reasons why he is having difficulty eating? I would ask for gastroenterology to investigate reasons for this.

inkworks273 · 08/09/2022 21:25

As far as I know you can't really overdose on b12 as it's water soluble so you just pee the excess out. His level is likely to be elevated due to being on a supplement.

I'm sure I've read before that the normal range in Japan is much higher than in the UK so I doubt it will do your son any harm. In fact some people believe that the normal range in the uk is too low.

inkworks273 · 09/09/2022 00:15

@Nfixon I used to supplement b12 and my levels were always >1000. The gp asked if I supplemented, I said yes and that was the end of it.

TheTeenageYears · 09/09/2022 00:45

It's on the higher end of B12 but not an issue, anything a body doesn't need is passed in urine and there are no ill effects to having a high count, many many ill effects of a low count though and many people suffer with issues if B12 is below 500 which is well above the supposed minimum level.

ChangeUserAgain · 25/11/2022 13:00
