Did we see a ghost?

On holiday in a villa abroad. Two teenage kids with us. Back of the villa has an undercover patio, beyond which is a pool.

the house is in a gated community and also has a large gate at the front which is operated with a fob. Basically it’s quite secure.

So Tuesday evening we are getting ready to
go out into town. Patio faces west, sun still
on the patio. Everyone is inside getting ready. Im
actually ready to go out but I’m sitting at the dining table looking out to the pool, which is probably 10 metres from me.

at this point I see what appears to be a teenage girl walk across the patio, right next to the sliding doors, which are open. It’s quite windy and as she walks past, the wind catches her blonde hair, and the setting sun then catches her hair and he hair glints. She’s wearing a strappy green top and she’s walking from right to left.

my first thought is that it’s one of my kids, but immediately discount that because I know neither has brought a green strappy top, she’s also not as tall as they are.

i then actually shout my kids, who both reply from inside the house. So it’s not them. Husband is in the kitchen, I tell him somebody has just walked across the patio, he runs out to
check, there’s nobody there. The left hand boundary (that she was walking towards) has a gap where you could theoretically squeeze
down the side of the house and back around the front, but you could not get out without opening the electronic gate. There fences have no gaps, they are lined with tall conifers in the garden nextdoor.

two mornings later, DH is woken by somebody walking into the bedroom and walking back out at 8am. Our kids haven’t been getting up until about 11. We ask them, it wasn’t them. It wasn’t me.

Would you be freaked out? I couldn’t sleep after that

Teenage girl: Is there a villa close by or next door?

Maltester71 · 04/09/2022 13:54

Yes, either side, but I cannot see for the life of me how they’d have accessed our garden without opening the electronic gate. There’s nowhere to climb over, i looked all around

No

Have friends of owners got a fob to open gate/way to access climbing over a hedge/wall or similar? Were they trying to use pool in owner's absence etc? Knew people who routinely did this on a development, especially re: a tennis court.

Maltester71 · 04/09/2022 13:58

I mean yes, it’s possible, but the owner certainly knows we were there, plus the gate makes a noise and I’d have heard it from where I was sitting.

it’s most odd. It was made more odd by the opening/closing of the bedroom door at 8am

No you didn’t see a ghost. 😂

Doyoumind · 04/09/2022 14:10

The opening/closing of the door could have been due to a breeze if any windows were open. I wouldn't read anything at all into that.

wallpoppy · 04/09/2022 14:13

Literally read nothing but the title and scrolled right to the bottom of the page to say no, of course you didn't see a ghost, don't be daft.

Whatawasteofcats · 04/09/2022 14:15

No, not a ghost.

Your saw a trespasser/thief. Probably someone who’s been given a copy of a key/fob in the past, or possibly someone who loves climbing over gates and thought you were out. Climbing over a non-alarmed gate is pretty easy if you carry the right equipment.

Passthewinebottle · 04/09/2022 14:16

Could it be a 'friend' one of your DC has made on holiday & they've been sneaking the girl in/out?

I immediately thought, do you have a teenaged boy and is this a visitor?! It's not a ghost anyway.

Maltester71 · 04/09/2022 14:30

No, they haven’t met anyone on holiday. Self contained villa

Far more likely to be someone hoping to use the facilities with access. Your door probably an unrelated draught incident.
