Internet speed test is 40Mbps and STILL BBC1 and Itv wont load/constantly glitching

It is driving me MAD!!

Just change to Talktalk's high speed internet and it is as bad as ever! Only 3 phones, a TV, laptop and PS being used and BBC keeps kicking me out of the programme I am trying to watch. Speed was 20 before I change it so thought this would improve it.

Constantly resetting it, switching router on and off 2/3 times an evening to see if that makes it better, and nothing works

Any tips most welcome!

I sometimes wonder if it's my fire stick that's crap. I have a d/l of 385 Mbps and still find Disney very glitchy. Not helpful at all, sorry, just pondering.

HowzAboutIt · 03/09/2022 20:33

Yes, Disney is awful too. Netflix is the only thing one that is usually ok.
I wondered about the firestick too

We have 10mbps and can still do 3 phones, streaming, and a laptop, and it doesn't struggle at all so I imagine we can do more.

What's your upload speed? Are you continuously using any cloud services? If so this could slow you down as cloud services are greedy with upload speed. If they are hogging it your other services (streaming iPlayer) will suffer too, as they need small amounts of upload capacity to work too.

If not that, then can you borrow equipment from friends and swap out one bit at a time to see where the problem is? Also try iPlayer on different devices etc to rule out device issues. Swap out cables too, and if using WiFi, try cables instead. Basically process of elimination.

Oh for the old days when you would say "Time for the Generation Game!" turn the TV on and voila - you watched the programme 😆

Feel I am turning into my mother with statements like that 😁

Is your computer trying to sync loads of data e.g. mail or backup like dropbox? This can slow down a lot especially if its glitching / getting caught in a loop

Anxietyriddenx · 03/09/2022 20:36

My bbc iPlayer is like that too!

LadyVictoriaSponge · 03/09/2022 20:37

It’s not your internet, my brand new smart tv does the same just kicks me out, it only happens on itv player generally but sometimes iPlayer, I think it’s something to do with the apps on the tv not being supported, it’s crap though.

elizabethdraper · 03/09/2022 20:39

We had that, it was the fire stick

Couldn't watch Disney or all 4, got a new fire stick all perfect

HowzAboutIt · 03/09/2022 20:42

@Orangio upload speed is 17.4. Thanks for those tips, they are really helpful x

It only works fine when we attach the laptop to the TV and watch it through that. Not sure what that proves, but maybe that it IS the TV.

Wonder if a new Firestick would solve it? We have deleted loads of Apps on the TV to try and speed it up

@elizabethdraper think it must be the FS then

@LadyVictoriaSponge it really is such a pain. Trying to watch Shetland - need to have a nice calming programme after this!

No, nothing like that - no synching being done x

I don’t know where these companies get off advertising their internet as “high speed” - 40 Mbps is nothing of the sort and they should be held to account! You should be able to stream with that speed though!

HowzAboutIt · 03/09/2022 21:10

Well according to TalkTalk now my internet speed is 63.5, but an independent one I ran says 40

Weird

Switch to Community fibre. They currently have a £100 Amazon voucher offer going for referring and much cheaper than Virgin media.

We had this and I logged into the router and changed the WiFi channel and it stopped. I think it was something to do with the smart tv.

I am not remotely techy - it wasn't actually hard, I was just desperate
