This seems strange--hiring freeze after interview, recruiter wants me to hang on

I interviewed for a really great job a couple of weeks ago. The interview process included a presentation to a panel. They are a well-respected bona fide company.

I didn't hear for a while and then the recruiter contacted me yesterday to say there's been a hiring freeze. I told her thanks anyway and asked whether she knew of any other roles.

She seemed a little surprised and said no. She asked me to tell her if I interviewed and accepted somewhere else, so she could take me out of the running for the first job.

Out of the running? But there's a hiring freeze. I didn't get the job. Of course I'm going to keep looking.

This seems strange to me. I mean, the hiring freeze might have been just been bad luck, but the recruiter expecting me to hang about?

The freeze may just until the end of this quarter, so 4 more weeks. Once the 6 month accounts are fixed, the job will be back on.

That's how we're managing out current freeze.

Obviously you're free to carry on looking, but the recruiter has asked you to let her know if you find something else. She can ask. You can chose to do it or not.

Also after the initial blanket freeze certain jobs can get unfrozen in my experience.

I would assume they were 'keeping you warm' whilst they continue looking.

I did suspect that, though perhaps its unfair of me. In any event, I'll keep looking.

Keep looking and good luck. My guess is they are waiting to hear back from another candidate. If you get something else great, if not then hopefully this one comes through
