Postpartum Contraception

Hi,
I birth in June 2021 and at my 8 week PP appointment the doctor asked me about contraception. I thought I might as well get this sorted now to save me coming back (even tho doing the deed was the last thing on my mind). As I was BF, I was put on desogestral which is a mini pill where you have no bleeding.
I have been taking this for over a year now with no issues or side effects but I've recently started to worry whether it's bad that I haven't had a period since giving birth. Surely the doctor wouldn't put me on it if it was? Will it affect my fertility in any way going forward as I always had really regular and normal periods.
Any advice would be great please.
I am still BF during the night so it's very minimal and plan on stopping soon. So at that point could I go back to my old pill (Yasmin?)
I don't want to fall pregnant as my wedding is coming up so I do need some sort of contraception but I just think do I need to get my cycle back to normal? I'm presuming this may take a while also given I've not had a period for almost 2 years (pregnancy & then year of mini pill).
Thanks! X

I didn’t have periods on deso at all, and that was pre kids

It’s normal I believe, but I did pregnancy tests every three months just to check.

I'd just want to be off all hormonal contraception for 6 months before TTC.

But no periods is fine.

Women are designed to be pregnant and breastfeeding a lot of our lives. Our ancestors didn't have anywhere near the number of periods we have.

You could start the combined pill whenever you wanted as its supposed to be ok from 6 weeks post birth if you have established breastfeeding.

I used cerazette for a few years and didn't have periods (wasn't breastfeeding; couldn't take combined pill due to weight)

And having periods on the combined pill is not having a proper cycle as it is a withdrawal bleed rather than a genuine period.

I've been on deso for 14 years except coming off twice to have my babies then straight back on. If it's working for you I'd keep going until you want to TTC.
