Partner ruined my surprise party!!

Oops! I mentioned to my DH that a while ago, my friends hinted they might throw a surprise baby shower and I had a message off a friend the other day asking what I still needed, which seemed suspicious! I didn't think they would have involved him in the planning which is why I mentioned it to him.

His face gave it all away, I know him extremely well haha. Then he proceeded to remind me that we are going for dinner tomorrow and 'there might be something happening after it.'

So now I know something is happening!
Do I act surprised?? How on EARTH do I do that!

(Obviously I'm extremely grateful that something has been planned etc etc but I can't pretend to be surprised surely?! I wish I never mentioned it now 😅)

He hasn't ruined it, you already know.

Turn up, be delighted to see everyone (hopefully) and say how kind they are.

I thought it would be in October time, when my friend was asking if I was free. Tomorrow I just thought we were going for dinner so no, I didnt know and I would have been extremely surprised.

Just to reiterate i am not annoyed or anything like that, I'm just anxious now about having to act surprised etc!

Yeah you have to act surprised! At least try. You can't let on you knew about it, you'll disappoint your friends!

simonthedog · 02/09/2022 20:19

I would forget about trying to be surprised (I hate surprises) and just be genuinely happy, which you will be because your friends have organised a party for you.

Summertimesadnesss · 02/09/2022 20:25

You have no idea who’ll be there or what’s happening so it won’t be hard to act surprised surely?

Apl · 02/09/2022 20:27

Your DH didn’t spoil it, you did. Why put him on the spot like that if you didn’t wanna know?! You basically said you knew a surprise party was coming and sounded like you were keen to know when it was, so he gave you a hint.

Do you always blame your DH for your own mistakes or is this unusual?

Surtsey · 02/09/2022 20:32

MIL once let the cat out of the bag about a surprise DH and DD were planning for me. She then realised what she'd done and was really apologetic.

The surprise came, and to this day DH and DD still have no clue, I hid it that well.

You can do it.

Bit harsh lol. If you read what I put, you will see that I only mentioned it to him because I thought that they wouldn't involve him in the planning. Baby shower came up in conversation, I mentioned that one of my friends hinted about it AGES ago but we've got most of our stuff so it's probably not happening and that was it.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I'll be surprised about SOME things at least!

You can't mention it to him and then be annoyed when he can't keep a straight face. It's fine, you'll get over it, the surprise element of it is a bit naff anyway I don't know why you're not allowed to know about it. You're pregnant you don't want to be stressed by a load of people leaping out from behind the curtains going SURPRISE

Mumoftoomanygirls · 02/09/2022 20:43

My DH told me about my surprise shower, I had no idea about it. He knew I’d want to know which I did, plus there would have been no way or reason for me to leave the house when GOTs was on so had to tell me the truth just to get me dressed.

SunshineClouds1 · 02/09/2022 20:44

Just say oh my god 100 times hands to face to cover your not so surprised face and then laugh and smile 😂

I hope you have a lovely time

Aconitum · 02/09/2022 20:51

It might not be what you think🥴🥴🥴

junebirthdaygirl · 02/09/2022 21:35

At least you know to dress nicely and have your hair washed!! Always dread if l ever have a surprise party that my hair will be a mess.
Just enjoy!!

They can't be having a baby shower after dinner if you're going out for dinner at 8pm surely? How far on are you? When I was baby shower far on I would have been snoozing by 8pm never mind dinner then a party!

Oh no if it was that late I'd be having words haha. Where I live we use lunch and dinner interchangeably...we are eating at 1pm 😅
