WJEC English language grade query.

My son’s WJEC GCSE English language summary of results is shown as a Grade 4 D, I thought a level 4 was equivalent to a standard grade C. Can anyone clarify?

Is the D a Distinction in the spoken assessment which doesn't otherwise count towards the grade?

WJEC is the welsh board - and have kept A* to G so the D is the grade.

The number is probably the oral exam and I can't find anything explaining grading of that on-line - but I think 1 is the top grade and it works down (like it used to do in English GCSE -) - I think DD1 got an A and a 2 so seems likely.

I managed to get through to WJEC it turns out the 4 is the grade (standard grade C) and the D is for distinction for his oral grade, I’m not why they didn’t just write it down. He’s at an English school hence my confusion.
