I hoovered up a hair grip today

Hoovering the living room earlier. I hoovered up a hair grip, one of the wire brown ones. It’s not mine. DD is little so not hers. It’s not any of our female relatives, no one I know uses this type of grip, or indeed any type of hair clip. How could it have got there?! It’s a mystery.

Relevant facts:

DH works from home and I’m currently on Mat Leave so limited opportunity for cheating but not impossible.

We’ve only lived in this house a month.

The dog likes to hoard up my scrunchies and bury them in his bed, so he does have form for favouring ladies head gear.

I’ve narrowed it down to three options:

  1. Cheating
  2. Previous owner of house dropped it and it’s somehow popped up from under the floorboard or skirting
  3. Aliens

What do you think? Any theories I’ve missed? 🔎

Got walked in stuck to a shoe.

User354354 · 01/09/2022 16:48

Option 2. Those things get stuck and hidden everywhere

MichaelAndEagle · 01/09/2022 16:49

Its number 2 I reckon.

Surtsey · 01/09/2022 16:50

To be honest, they can appear from nowhere. I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Hadn't occurred to me. I’ll add this as a 4th option. I tell them all off for wearing their bloody shoes in the house but they don’t really listen!

option 4. Dog found it in the garden and brought it in

Blossomandbee · 01/09/2022 16:52

If you've only been there a month I would be almost certain it's from a previous occupant. I found loads of around when I bought my house, including down the back of radiators!
I use them myself and they definitely grow legs and walk, I get through loads of them - along with hair bands!

But WHERE? How? Do they just appear out of the air? I remember reading a thread on here when this were all fields years ago about a woman who was sitting at her laptop MN’ing and suddenly got hit on the head by a shower of £1 coins. Insane

That's how they're made, they spontaneously generate is random places, get chucked in the bin, harvested from landfill and sold.

Don't give it a second thought.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 01/09/2022 16:52

2 or 4 those things could easily be walked inside on the bottom of a shoe

dodobookends · 01/09/2022 16:52

4 - left behind by a visitor eg: HV, midwife, friend with small dc.

Cinnabomb · 01/09/2022 16:53

Honestly I still find random Bobby pins years after I’d stopped using them. If you’d only been in the house a month it’s likely from whoever was there previously. I don’t think it’s normal to jump to cheating DH straight away unless you’ve got other concerns.

Soubriquet · 01/09/2022 16:54

It’s the phenomenon of being a woman.

They magically appear one day and you just get surprised by one appearing in random places.

blockpavingismynightmare · 01/09/2022 16:54

I say 'get a grip'

Ha ha

I jest about H, mostly. He’s a good egg. But no denying things aren’t what they were since the baby.

Hoovering the carpet? Wooden floor? Laminate? It could easily have just worked itself into the right position to be hoovered up.

IsItShining · 01/09/2022 16:59

Thrown down chimney by jackdaws.
Or is that just our house?

JaneJeffer · 01/09/2022 17:01

It's been in the place where the lost things go and just reappeared that's all.

Original floorboards. Could have been down there since 1888

It's the one I dropped in the bathroom this morning and couldn't find. Clearly there is some kind of portal between our houses!

Maybe! It’s in Henry Hoo’s belly if you want it back.

Whataplanker · 01/09/2022 17:12

Was probably stuck in the gap between floorboards and has worked it's way out with the hoover.
