Drugs in DS room. Shall I take to police?

DickDarstedly · 01/09/2022 16:19

I found some drugs in DS room. It’s white powder wrapped in paper inside a ziplock type bag. DS admits they are illegal drugs but does not want to say what they are. I want to know what they are to give me some idea of what is happening for him. Of course none of it is good but I would find it easier to come to terms with it being cocaine or ecstasy because I associate that with occasional fun times (yes, I know this isn’t always the case), rather than crack or heroin which would make me much more concerned for him. He has ADHD and I do think he is more vulnerable to self medication, dependency, impulsive behaviour etc.

Would it be mad to ask police if they would test it?

Is it pure white?

DickDarstedly · 01/09/2022 16:22

Yes it is pure white

The police won't test it. You can buy drug detection kits online that will change colour depending on what substance it is.

Sorry you're going through this.

StrikeandRobin · 01/09/2022 16:25

The police aren’t likely to waste resources testing one little bag I don’t think. They were useless when we went to say our vulnerable ASD son seemed to be being used to bike cannabis around for delivery.

Could be speed I suppose?

NCgoingdry · 01/09/2022 16:26

Also with all the knock off new party drugs going around it could be one of a hundred things. I imagine cocaine is expensive these days.
Maybe a discussion on how it is made and the people who are exploited and killed getting it here may guilt him into not considering drugs like this again.

Forestdweller11 · 01/09/2022 16:26

How old is ds?. Don't say anything to police (perhaps later). Is there any hint of county lines action? Is he likely to be easily led, get in to trouble, be the fall guy?. Or more likely to be the one dealing? Tell him you need him to come clean to you. That you won't take it any further and go over some 'why drugs are bad' stuff although he prob knows already. Use it as a learning experience.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 01/09/2022 16:30

Crack would be a rock and heroin would be brown, as would MDMA crystals.
It's almost certainly coke or ketamine.

YellowHpok · 01/09/2022 16:45

If you are in Wales you can send it off to be tested here www.wedinos.org/

There may be other similar options elsewhere.

Grumpytiredandsick · 01/09/2022 16:45

MDMA can be a white powder. If he's a teen it's probably coke or MDMA

DickDarstedly · 01/09/2022 16:59

@YellowHpok thanks for the info about wedinos. It looks like it might be possible for people outside Wales to use it.

Sorry but doubt that would have any effect. It'll probably be coke, mdma, speed of ketamine. I think you just need to talk to him. Don't shout or he'll just clam up.

Cas112 · 01/09/2022 17:25

Will more than likely be coke, mdma is a tiny tinge yellower. Try not to worry OP, I hope he starts being truthful with you eventually and you can get to the bottom of this

Florenz · 01/09/2022 17:33

It will be coke. Flush it down the toilet and ground your son for a while. The police won't be interested.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 01/09/2022 17:36

I think the thing is to just get rid of it, flush down the loo and wash out the bag and just try to ask him about what he's been doing. Just ask questions, don't assume anything.

Choconut · 01/09/2022 17:37

Is he medicated for his ADHD? might be worth looking into if he is self medicating.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 01/09/2022 17:39

Agree flush it down the toilet.

And my next course of action would depend on his age. Anything under 16 and I would ground him, and stop giving him any kind of money, I absolutely would not fund anyone’s drug habit even if it’s a casual one.

Over 16 and I would throw him out. I have an absolute 0 tolerance policy on drugs.

Throw him out? Seriously??

Don't go to the police.
Communicate.

HappyHamsters · 01/09/2022 17:49

Ie there a drug/substance unit near you who could offer you adcice about what it could be and how best to talk to your son.

onmywayamarillo · 01/09/2022 17:57

How old is he?
Don't call the police, all sorts of trouble could come from that!!

Just take it away, and talk to him. Also listen

Not be tolerated, if you find it again etc etc police etc, explain about drugs why it's not accepted where is he getting it from? Was he expected to sell it on?
Good luck

chilliesandspices · 01/09/2022 17:58

Are you hoping your son gets a criminal record that impacts the rest of his life?

Why would you want to give your son a criminal record?!

Just flush it down the toilet.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 01/09/2022 19:33

I wouldn't dream of involving the police. Do you want to get your kid a criminal record? I'd get rid of it, but not before I'd persuaded him to tell me what it is.

Dotcheck · 01/09/2022 19:39

Why the actual fuck would you be more ok with it being cocaine? You know that there is an epidemic of coke being cut with fentanyl? Which can result in instant death- as in, no time to wait for the ambulance, dead by the time they can get to hospital.

Katsufatsu · 01/09/2022 19:45

If he's young, I doubt he could afford coke. It could be Ketamine, speed or some kind of random new party drug that's currently about. Ask him? It won't be crack or heroin.
I imagine it's very temping to go to the police, it will scare the shit out of him but if he gets a record it will affect his future (many jobs, the record is never spent eg NHS).
