Being a yes person has exhausted me

No idea how it happened but slowly over the years I turned in to the person who says yes to almost everything. Volunteering for committees, PTAs, health trials, helping people with all sorts (long term help I don't mean quick favours).

My children are growing up and naturally these things are becoming less but this has had the effect that I realise how much better I feel for not having so much going on- now I just want to say no to everything!

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a sort of personality that just ends up overwhelmed by doing more than their share of volunteering and overcommitting?

I will add that I work full time, have 3 children (now teens) plus a dog, a shift working husband... it's not like I have a ton of time and mental space to give up in the first place!

Yes. This is me. Luckily everytime I volunteer or nearly volunteer for something my husband rolls his eyes and reminds me that I am a people pleaser.

I'm trying to find the same relationship at work, not a husband but someone to just tell when I take too much on.
