Please help me. What could this be?

This has been happening for 6 weeks now.

I have been to the hospital 4 times for tests which include MRI, CT, ultrasound, urine and blood tests. All have come back clear.

I have a pain in my abdomen. It’s in my lower left side, like a sharp stabbing pain, that radiates through to my right side. All of my stomach is tender to touch.

I also have a very painful diaphragm which means I can’t sit up. I have to lay down.

I can’t walk for long. I took my children to a friends house which was 5 mins away, and I was fucked by the end.

I can’t eat meals. If I eat more than a toddler size portion, my stomach starts to really hurt. I can only snack.

I sometimes get what can only be described as pain attacks, where I feel like someone is stabbing me repeatedly for about 5-10 mins. Then it stops.

I constantly feel nauseous, and at the beginning I was vomiting, but I’m not doing that now.

I also occasionally get these rushes. I feel like all the blood rushes to my head, and then drops to my feet making me feel hot, and then extremely light headed and dizzy.

I have co-codomol for pain relief but tbh it’s doing nothing. Originally I was discharged from hospital with tramadol which took the edge off the pain but did nothing for my diaphragm.

I am completely useless at the moment. I can’t parent properly. I can’t have fun with my kids. I can’t be a good wife. I can’t clean or anything. Dh to his credit has done absolutely everything. He’s been working from 2am-12pm, coming home, feeding the kids their lunch, doing the housework, feeding them their tea and then going to bed.

I am getting up, giving them their breakfast, and then trying to entertain them with tv or them playing in their rooms. Luckily they are 7 and 9 so don’t need much supervision.

My next step now is try to get the GP involved. I don’t know what they can do that the hospital couldn’t.

So. Any ideas? What should I ask the GP to do?
What could it be?

Sounds like it could be POTS

Soubriquet · 31/08/2022 18:48

Some of that rings true. Others not so much. I’ll bring it up with the GP

Thank you

Anyone else have an idea.

Currently feeling extremely uncomfortable. My diaphragm is feeling incredibly sore. Taken an anti nausea tablet so at least that sort of eased off. I’ve also got bad cramping in my pubis. But I’m not due on for another 2/3 weeks

Small update. Went to the doctors yesterday who said he would refer me to the hospital for tests.

About an hour after I got home, he rang back and told me to just to go A&E.

12 hours later, I’m home again. I had an x-ray, two sets of blood tests, two separate CTG scan. 3 lots of painkillers and an anti emetic.

Still not sorted. I’ve been sent home with some co-codomol and to await contact from the hospital regarding an endoscopy appointment which I’m really not looking forward to.

However, if this gets me diagnosed and sorted, I’ll take it!

I am in constant pain now. Right where my stomach would be. I have constant nausea. I can’t walk, struggle to sit up, struggle to eat meals. If it wasn’t the fact I had fresubins, I think I would have lost a lot of weight by now.

I was going to suggest your gp would refer you to endoscopy. The tests they've done in hospital so far should have ruled out anything critical (emerging situations), which I would take heart from.

Unfortunately cannot begin to speculate what might be causing it! Hope your next appointments come through quickly and that painkillers help.
Definitely go back to doc if it gets worse!

Soubriquet · 07/09/2022 10:35

I knew this would possibly be the next step tbh but thank you. You’re right. It’s nothing that requires an absolute emergency care which is a relief but at the same time it’s frustrating as I have been the worst mum ever during these holidays. I was able to watch some tv with the kids in the morning for about an hour before I had retire back to bed. I didn’t leave the house and couldn’t take them to the park or anything.

Luckily, my kids were really understanding and just tried their best to help

Have you been checked for gallstones?

Soubriquet · 07/09/2022 10:49

Not specifically but I would have thought they would have seen something with the MRI, CT
scan and ultrasound. They were looking for any signs of appendicitis and kidney stones so gall stones wouldn’t be too much of a throw from that.

Could be a cyst somewhere in your abdomen

JustlookingNotbuying · 07/09/2022 10:52

I get a lot of this and other symptoms too. I have had 2 gastroscopes, 1 colonoscopy, a pill camera endoscopy, a ct scan, endless ultrasounds (upper digestive and gynae) and bloods tests too. Nothing found but they say it’s just IBS. I am still not convinced.
I am still awaiting a SeHCAT scan but on a long waiting list as apparently there is a U.K. shortage of the products they use for this scan!
I was also very anaemic at the beginning of the year and had a ferritin level of 3. I had to have an infusion which has given me a good HB level but still fairly low ferritin levels.
I get the head rush thing too, thought it was the iron levels but still get it. Have you had your iron levels checked?
Hopefully the gastroscope will come through quickly for you. They really are not that bad and over very quickly.
Are you going through any kind of stress atm? I have a lot of stress atm and I’m not sure if that is making my issues worse.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2022 10:55

No stress. I’m already on iron tablets so I don’t think it’s that. It’s literally just a waiting game I guess

Hi, have you had a recent smear test? I had all that you have described, and it turned out to be abnormal cells, plus a cyst. I had a colposcopy and hysteroscopy to investigate, then removal of cells. I also decided to have my coil removed. I've had no pain since, and it's been 6 months.

Hope you get to the bottom of this x

Droo · 07/09/2022 11:10

Diverticulitis.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2022 11:16

Yes. Up to date on smear. On no birth control. Dh has been snipped 6 years ago

Are they looking for Crohn's disease ?

Soubriquet · 07/09/2022 19:01

Not as far as I am aware

When you say “stomach” to you actually mean that area? Or lower down where the intestine is (see image)?

Please help me. What could this be?
LMBoston · 07/09/2022 19:25

You say you’re due your period in a couple of weeks… could it be ovulation pain? I get it every month, horrendous stabbing pain for a few hours on “day 1” (actual ovulation?) then 4 days of extreme bloating and pain that runs from below my ribs right to my groin. It’s so bad that sometimes I can’t sit down or stand up straight! And then, like clockwork, it stops and my period starts a week later. If it didn’t happen every bloody month I’d be worried too.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2022 19:56

Stomach. Definitely not ovulation pains. Would ovulation pains really last a continuous 6 weeks plus

Could it be an ulcer ? Helicobactor pylori?

Floomobal · 07/09/2022 20:03

My friend had symptoms similar and it was colitis. Hope they get to the bottom of it

sickofbeingscaredofbeingsick · 07/09/2022 20:10

Could it be endometriosis?

Diaphragmatic endometriosis is more common than you'd think.

How are your periods?

warriorathena · 07/09/2022 20:19

Did your bloods show anything abnormal? Was anything at all picked up on CT/ultrasound? Did the doctors have any ideas what they thought was happening? My first thought was pancreatitis which can be caused by gallstones but looks like you have got these. Alcohol is a common cause. How often do you drink and how much?

talknomore · 07/09/2022 20:23

Could it be endometriosis and a secondary fybromyalgia?

warriorathena · 07/09/2022 20:37

Could also be a gastric ulcer which is picked up on endoscopy. You've suffered long enough, let's hope you get diagnosed and treated quickly.
