What is this mark?!

Just pulled an old laptop out of the loft storage and there's a mark on it in the dust that is freaking me out. I know what I think I look like but I'm hoping someone can tell me it isn't what I think it is! I sleep right next the the damn wall where the storage is!

I'm deliberately not saying because I don't want to influence people.

I'd say bird print, it looks too splayed and big for squirrel and mouse.
You need one of those insect strips on the bottom of those doors, the gap is massive, I'd also be worried about spiders coming through the louvre. At least you have a cat.

Popvan · 01/09/2022 05:47

BTW, what's that Darth Veda thing on your pillow.?

CrustyCrotch · 01/09/2022 05:52

Spring heeled Jack has come to visit.

custardbear · 01/09/2022 05:56

Tarantula?! Eh?
Looks like squirrel to me, or rat

Since when do birds have pads on their feet?!

There's a clear padded foot in the print, so that is most likely a squirrel. Could be a rat.

Sooverthisnow · 01/09/2022 06:53

It’s a bird print. Probably a pigeon. Birds do have a small padded area where all the toes meet at the base. Just google various animal prints and that will tell you.

inappropriateraspberry · 01/09/2022 06:53

Probably a partial rat print.

Sooverthisnow · 01/09/2022 06:54

It’s not a rat

Not like that they don't. Pigeon example attached.

A squirrel is approximately the size it appears next to OPs hand, so front paw. Partial.

It's not a tarantula either. They're at least 4.5 inches in size and have considerably more legs, so I'd expect to see at least one more leg print as well as it appearing bigger.

Introvertedandalone · 01/09/2022 07:10

Because of how splayed the “toes” are, I’d say it’s more likely to be a front paw of a rat than a squirrel. squirrels are closer together. See examples of rat and squirrel attached.

I’d lay money on that being a squirrel

That's a one huge rat though

Oblomov22 · 01/09/2022 07:55

Whatever animal it is it makes me cringe - bird rat squirrel the thought of them flying around in my loft / scurrying around in my loft makes me wince.

Smallmouse1 · 01/09/2022 08:18

After googling I'd say rat not squirrel

Rats can be fucking massive. I saw one 2ft long once, the tail was as long as the body.

Normally there's carpet/underlay in there but I had to move it to open the door! 😂😁

The black thing? It's a small fan 😊

I genuinely don't know how any animal could have got in. The front of the house is a straight drop with nothing near to it. Guessing a squirrel could have climbed but not sure about how a rat would get in?

It's some kind of lizard www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/animals-footprints-vector-4618203

SilverGlassHare · 01/09/2022 09:39

I vote rat. Sorry, OP. I'd be burning down the house right about now.

BellaVida · 01/09/2022 10:04

I’d say bird, likely a pigeon. Rats have 4 toes.

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2022 10:33

Rodents can easily climb up the side of buildings.

Have you checked for droppings or any other signs of wildlife?

Qik · 01/09/2022 10:36

Succubus

itchyhop · 01/09/2022 10:39

I'm afraid I'd go with Rat too.
Squirrel's toes don't spread out like that - mice do, but it's too big.
Rats also do - and they can be much bigger.
