Unfortunately I speak from experience

toetoiseshellclub · 30/08/2022 13:58

I was also going to say the same. My neighbor had a rat inside his Bonet.

Stripeystrip201 · 30/08/2022 14:25

A French fry stuck down the side of the car seat.

FourEyesGood · 30/08/2022 15:37

Ours stank for ages because DH had spilled a bit of latte in the footwell. We couldn’t identify the location or the source of the smell. Eventually it grew furry mould and DH remembered spilling a bit of his takeaway latte months earlier. He cleaned it up and the smell vanished almost overnight.

Aberration · 30/08/2022 15:38

Mine does too! I think mine is related to the air con . I’ve been told mould can grow there.

We went on holiday first week of July and took a few snacks for the kids in the car. Left it in an airport car park for 10 days. On return the car smelt a bit off but we just thought it was 'stale air'. It's my husbands car so i didn't drive it for another two weeks, at which point it stunk and i said so to my husband who hadn't noticed! He was adamant there was nothing in there despite the smell, insisting he had checked. Two further weeks later and he did some heavy braking and a pack of cheese triangles shot out from the under the passenger seat. They must have been in there since early July - close contact was grim, to put it lightly. Check under all seats and all in all nooks very carefully!

Did you have your A/C on? Might need re-gassing

RhubarbFairy · 30/08/2022 15:48

My old car always used to stick of rotten bananas when I put the air con on. DHs one does the same. It's grim. Both were like it when we bought them (completely different make/models).

Wibble128 · 30/08/2022 15:58

If you have aircon. The heat exchanger that makes the air cold as it flows over it has the effect of condensing the moisture in the air producing water which should drain cleanly away. It rarely does. The moisture retained on the heat exchanger and ducts starts to breed mould and bugs etc. Get it cleaned out.

My car smelled of cheese for a couple of days because an individual portion of brie had fallen out of my shopping bag in the boot and ripened in the hot weather. it was rank but dissipated quickly once spotted and binned. Gross.

Ratonastick · 30/08/2022 16:52

From personal experience check the nooks and crannies in your boot. I found an elderly tin of tuna that had fallen and wedged underneath the spare wheel. It was fine until it burst….

HannahSternDefoe · 30/08/2022 16:56

Absolutely and totally dodgy Air Con.

DO NOT let them just drop a "tablet" in it - it will stink of cheesy feet topped with fruits of the fucking forest.

It need properly flushing.

Trust me, my nose has never really recovered...fortunately we only had to suffer the car for another month Grin

alwaysfactor50 · 30/08/2022 19:58

I looked under the bonnet and couldn't find a dead rodent!

Will check the air con although it doesn't seem to smell when I put it on (if anything it helps!)
