What to do with constipation during potty training???

Day4, still no poop! Eating lots and drinking a good deal. I have no idea how his tummy could gobble up so much with nothing coming out!

So tomorrow would send DH to Boots to get Lactulose (ok for a 3yo?). But how on earth shall I handle it from there?

Shall I put back the nappy on to catch the spontaneous relief? Or shall I let him try risking any nasty incident still remaining cool about it ?

He's been having no accident with wee since yesterday. But we haven't tried going out yet!

Help!

Having the same problem here, so not advice as such. Our 3yr old had been prescribed lactulose and laxido before we started potty training so have a stash sitting there. He clearly isn’t going enough and likely withholding. I’ve only tried giving him 2.5mls lactulose a few mornings as he still gets a nappy before bed. The nappy usually inspires a ‘result’ either before bed or in the morning before taking it off. But if he has the urge during the day he’s begging for a nappy on. I’m just chuffed he’s got the hang of pees, the other end will hopefully catch up for both of them! You could try plenty of water, giving things like pears. And the pharmacy might give advice but they might need a prescription for lactulose etc.

Gentle tummy massage usually helps my son. When it gets bad I give him a few drops of home made dil water too.

If the constipation is caused by a reluctance to go for the poo on the potty try the app Poo goes to Pooland, it's a story they click through and it worked with my little one who pooed no problem for the first week then suddenly refused and was having accidents. Also she was were prescribed lactulose from about 6 weeks to counteract anti reflux meds so you should be able to get that for older children or lots of fruits can help speed things up.

Hi all, thanks. I've tried quite a few things mentioned here and online. Half pear, lots of berries, apple&pear juice (diluted), half prune. Finally came through a bit (all in potty, thank goodness!). But I think he still has a lot trapped inside for tomorrow!

And got three accidents today after accident free yesterday. I planned to go to the zoo by Friday before school starts. Guess I'd reschedule it when he masters!

Get him to blow bubbles whilst on the potty. It's apparently impossible to hold onto a poo and blow bubbles at the same time.
Failing that, Ella's Kitchen's prunes.
