Can someone help explain to us both what is needed. We have gone to a rabbit hole with permutations of lines (if that makes sense!)

an odd number in the middle then odd either side of it

then even opposite each other in the remaining two boxes

WeAllHaveWings · 29/08/2022 18:58

basically the principle being you need two odd to make an even and so the 3rd number needs to be even to keep it even

Agree with PP.

Therefore first bullet point is not possible but second is as there are more even numbers.

I'm the first example you'd have sums with 3 odds which equals and odd not an even.

Does that make any sense?

Just the two straight rows of three? Two odds and an even in each row. See my very neat diagram below 😁

I think the links have to ignore the straight lines to work. You count only the triangles of numbers.

I think you just have to answe no to the first question. You can’t arrange the numbers so that all the sets of three add up to an even number.

CircleofWillis · 29/08/2022 19:13

Ah you are right. I didn't read the questions properly.

If every permutation of three connected numbers need to add up even then it’s proper hard! Hope you post the right answer when she gets it marked and finds out! 😆

Thank you 💐

was totally over thinking, like a how many triangles can you count in this big one type thing

feeling a little embarrassed that can’t cope with this level!
