Reason for leaving job?

I've got an interview, exactly the same role, similar location and need to think of a reason why I want to leave my current role if asked.

The truth is I've been there for a few years but increasingly unhappy with management/communication etc and feel it's time to move on. How can I tactfully word this? I know the interviewer so don't want to lie, but also am wary that I may sound like the issue or that it's bad form to be negative about current role.

What makes the new employer different from your current one? More opportunities? Different client base? Does their ethos fit well with your own values? Just look for something like that you can focus on in your answer.

Looking for a role that offers a way to utilise the skills I have.

no one has ever asked at the interview why do you want to leave your job

You’re overthinking this! Just say you want a new challenge or you really want to work for X company.

You need a new challenge and opportunity to progress, you feel you have taken your current role as far as you can. Keep it positive though.

I was all set for this question & got thrown when they asked me why I wanted the role I had applied for. They were not interested in why I had left the last role.

Thank you 🙏

I am overthinking (fairly typical for me) and I guess because needing to leave feels like a big deal to me because of the way I've been treated it's not likely to be a big deal for the interviewer....

They may ask you why you're interested in this job and this company so have some answers ready around new opportunities, personal development, something that attracts you to that company.

You're unlikely to be asked why you want to leave current job.

Good luckFlowers
